Full Job Description
Primary Function:

The Electronics Controls Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the development, integration, and validation of electronic and electromechanical systems for residential and commercial water heating products. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in both electrical and mechanical engineering principles, along with extensive experience designing and delivering reliable, cost-effective appliance systems from concept through production.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the system-level design and development of electronic controls and electromechanical components for water heating appliances.
  • Define product controls architectures, system requirements, interfaces, and controls performance specifications.
  • Develop and validate control strategies involving heating elements, sensors, pumps, valves, blowers, communication interfaces, and safety systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Perform system integration, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, thermal, and controls-related issues.
  • Develop verification and validation plans to ensure products meet functional, safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design Reviews, Risk Assessments, and Root Cause Corrective Action investigations.
  • Support controls certification activities including UL, CSA, IEC, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support field issue investigations and implement robust corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex system development activities.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Systems Engineering, Master's degree in Engineering or related preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in appliances, HVAC, water heating, industrial controls, embedded systems, or related product development environments.
  • Strong understanding of both electrical and mechanical system design and their interactions within electromechanical products.
  • Experience with embedded control systems, sensors, actuators, power electronics, and control architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience leading products from concept development through production launch.
  • Strong understanding of system engineering processes, requirements management, and product validation methodologies.
  • Experience conducting design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, PFMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards applicable to consumer or commercial appliances.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience developing electric, hybrid, heat pump, or gas-fired water heating products preferred
  • Previous system design experience for residential and commercial appliances preferred
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, UART, SPI, I2C, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth preferred.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering preferred
