The RoleXos is looking for an Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team, with a focus on the electrical design and deployment of our energy products, including the Xos Hub.
In this role, you'll own the electrical design across the product lifecycle from understanding customer applications and developing system architecture to supporting production, commissioning, and deployed products in the field. You'll work across high and low-voltage systems, energy storage, power conversion, EV charging, controls, and communications while partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, suppliers, and customers.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys taking ownership of complex electrical systems and seeing their designs move from schematics to real-world operation.
**This is an on-site position based at our Los Angeles, CA headquarters, with occasional travel required based on business and project needs.**What You'll Do- Design and maintain electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and harness designs for HV DC, LV AC, and 12/24V control systems.
- Develop electrical architectures for new Xos Hub configurations and customer-specific applications.
- Perform power and energy calculations, including load analysis, battery sizing, charging profiles, voltage drop, fault current, and short-circuit analysis.
- Evaluate grid power and interconnection requirements, including utility service configurations, grounding, bonding power, power quality, and power conversion.
- Size and select wiring, connectors, overcurrent protection, control devices, and other electrical components.
- Define electrical and communication interfaces across batteries/BMS, inverters/PCS, EVSE, generators, controllers, and telematics using hardwired I/O, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, including electrical drawings, E-BOMs, assembly packages, SOPs, and test and commissioning procedures.
- Support production builds, first article inspections, system testing, and commissioning at Xos facilities and customer locations, including travel as needed.
- Troubleshoot deployed systems using telematics data, logs, CAN traces, and other diagnostic tools; perform root cause analysis and translate findings into design and process improvements.
- Review customer applications, including vehicle and charging requirements, site power, load profiles, and duty cycles, to determine appropriate system configurations.
- Support product design and certification activities to applicable electrical, energy storage, and safety standards.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3-4+ years of electrical systems design experience in EV, energy storage, transportation, heavy equipment, rail, industrial power, or a related environment.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, single-and three-phase power, grounding, electrical protection, and power conversion.
- Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, CATIA Systems Schematic, or similar tools.
- Hands-on experience with load calculations, wire and overcurrent protection sizing, and electrical component selection.
- Experience producing release-ready engineering documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and engineering changes.
- Experience testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and field teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally based on business and project needs.
Nice to HaveExperience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS), batteries/BMS, inverters/PCS, EV charging, or mobile power systems
- Wire harness design and harness supplier coordination
- CCS or NACS charging systems
- Microgrids, including grid-tied and islanded operation
- CAN communications and diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, or PCAN
- Interface Control Documents (ICDs), requirements traceability, FMECA, or EMC analysis
- PLM systems and 3D CAD tools such as Windchill, Creo, SolidWorks, or CATIA
- UL, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, or IEC standards related to energy storage and EV charging
- EIT certification or PE licensure
- Startup or high-growth manufacturing environments
