Job Description

Position Summary: Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company is seeking an Electrical Engineer (PE) who will be responsible for leading the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline by using basic project management and advanced knowledge of general engineering principles. Coordinates with design and other project engineers to efficiently complete project goals delivered on schedule, budget, and of quality.

This role offers flexible work location options in Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Virginia Beach, VA; or Macon, GA.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Supporting overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective discipline, including, developing hours estimates, scope, etc.
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Track the budgets of discipline task(s).
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project.
  • Executing quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project.
  • Delegate project tasks to project team members.
  • Coaching/mentoring design staff through the design process.
  • Provide consultative services to the client(s), including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and appropriate solutions to meet their expectations.
  • Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Perform alternative studies, evaluate impacts, develop and finalize reports for client.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
  • Perform or check design computations
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure alignment and project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
  • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department
  • (If Manages Others) Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 8 - 10+ years' experience in in a leadership role with an Electrical Engineering firm or a multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm with substantial knowledge of applicable energy codes and standards

Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Previous experience with wireless communications projects
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation
  • Strong experience in the design of building power distribution, lighting, communications and security systems
  • Experience as a lead designer or Electrical Engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP), certifications
  • Active participation in IEEE, IES or other related professional organizations

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
