Full Job Description
The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Electrical & Instrumentation Project Superintendent. This job is full-time permanent. Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, the E&I Project Superintendent, is responsible for providing professional and efficient engineering services related to electrical and instrumentation systems. This role supports ongoing operations and profitability at the mill, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards while optimizing system performance. Key Responsibilities Safety, Environmental & Quality • Actively engage in achieving departmental safety goals and contribute to a zero-incident safety culture. • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation. • Audit field service crews and contractors for compliance with safety requirements and address unsafe conditions immediately. • Ensure that electrical installations and repairs comply with relevant standards and regulatory requirements. Engineering Services • Manage and lead capital and expense projects related to electrical and instrumentation from concept through implementation. • Perform engineering design, data gathering, analysis, and documentation processes for electrical systems. • Support maintenance services for electrical and control systems across the mill, prioritizing equipment availability and performance. • Oversee energy-related projects, including power generation, distribution, instrumentation, and process automation. • Identify inline improvement opportunities through innovation and system optimization. • Asist in planning instrumentation, DCS, PLC, process automation and electrical work assigned to the engineering department. Ensure alignment with department planners. Participate in regular reviews of the electrical, instrumentation, and engineering backlogs for EE&I support. • Assist in developing and implementing engineering standards, policies, and procedures within the department and across the mill. • Provide engineering design drawings and as-built documentation as required. • Liaise with Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure optimal electrical system performance, coordinating outages, power distribution, and service reliability. • Assist in developing and implementing engineering standards, policies, and procedures within the department and across the mill. • Provide engineering design drawings and as-built documentation as required. • Liaise with Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure optimal electrical system performance, coordinating outages, power distribution, and service reliability. • Develop and manage project budgets, scopes of work (SOWs), and Appropriation for Funding Requests (ARs). • Prepare detailed Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and evaluate contractor/vendor submissions. • Coordinate and manage contracts with engineering consultants and vendors, verifying work scope completion. • Assist in troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and adjustment of electrical and instrumentation systems. • Conduct electrical fault analysis to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. • Maintain accurate documentation on technical processes, preparing detailed reports as required. • Regularly review and update electrical and instrumentation preventive maintenance schedules for effectiveness. • Lead Management of Change (MOC) and HAZOP processes to ensure safe project improvements. • Monitor equipment conditions, anticipating potential failures to ensure proactive maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems. • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a valid trades qualification/diploma in a related field. • 5-6 years of experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment (e.g., pulp and paper, power generation, mining). • In-depth knowledge of high- and low-voltage electrical systems, industrial control systems, DCS, and PLC programming. • Familiarity with steam turbine generators, power distribution networks, and protective relays. • Knowledge of AutoCAD for designing electrical schematics and layout drawings. • Experience with energy monitoring/reporting tools and power system analysis software such as SKM. • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to convey technical information clearly. • Solid project management and leadership skills, with experience in managing engineering projects and maintenance tasks. • Familiarity with SAP or equivalent enterprise asset management systems for work orders and reporting. • This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, requiring strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to quality and safety. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment while adhering to strict timelines.
