Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer (EE) in the Facilities Engineering department provides leadership for planning, design, construction, and administration of building projects to modify and sustain the Universities infrastructure. The EE guides projects to support the hospital and campus, to meet building codes and regulatory requirements, and to integrate properly with existing infrastructure and campus/hospital goals. This position supports the other engineers of Facilities Engineering, the project managers for Design & Construction, and the Physical Plants of both Hospitals. Typical duties include functioning as an in-house electrical engineer/designer, consulting with Physical Plant on infrastructure planning and for small project designs, supporting Design & Construction project managers to review project design submissions and provide project design guidance, supporting the electrical engineering needs of Facilities Engineering, and as project manager for selected projects. As project manager, this position will be responsible for all aspects of design and construction of assigned capital projects, including planning, project work, scope & budget, management of client expectations, budget & schedule, contracts & payments, submittals, progress reporting and close-out.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and a minimum of five (5) years in the field, including design of building electrical systems. Excellent written/oral communications skills. Experience with all facets of design and construction projects, plus excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical and computer skills required. Knowledge of construction project sequencing, terminology, documentation, processes, and procedures. Must have the knowledge, skills and techniques to direct and coordinate consultants, contractors, end users and materials through all stages of construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of New York or in a comparable jurisdiction preferred. Knowledge of NYS Building Codes & NFPA standards, Facility Guidelines Institute healthcare guidelines, and Hospital procedures. Familiarity with State University of New York (SUNY) procurement guidelines and design guidelines. Experience in a contract and/or procurement environment. Leadership skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Project or other scheduling software, Building Information Modeling (BIM) experience and proficiency with AUTOCAD, REVIT, and SKM electrical software. Experience managing or design of healthcare related projects.
