Full Job Description
Electrical Engineer - Team Lead

HED is looking to add an experienced team member to our group of talented Electrical Engineers. The Electrical Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, oversight, and delivery of large complex electrical engineering projects focused on hyperscale data centers within the mission critical sector. This position will also lead and manage an offshore electrical engineering team.

Position Summary

This role provides strategic direction for electrical system design, interdisciplinary coordination, QAQC leadership, and technical excellence throughout all phases of project delivery. Serving as both a technical expert and Engineer of Record, the Electrical Engineer assumes responsible charge over assigned projects, ensuring code compliance, design integrity, and high-quality engineering outcomes.

In addition to project leadership responsibilities, this position oversees and mentors offshore engineering teams, managing production workflows, technical coordination, staffing alignment, and quality standards across distributed project teams. The role acts as a key liaison between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal leadership, driving successful project execution while advancing firmwide engineering standards, innovation, and professional development initiatives. This position requires strong leadership, advanced technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to manage complex project challenges in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions
  • Lead, manage, and participate in selection of offshore electrical engineering production teams, including assignment delegation, workflow coordination, technical oversight, and quality assurance across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Establish clear communication protocols, production standards, and delivery expectations between domestic and offshore project teams to ensure schedule alignment and technical consistency.
  • Review, mentor, and approve offshore team deliverables, ensuring adherence to firm standards, applicable codes, project requirements, and QAQC procedures.
  • Coordinate staffing utilization and production planning for offshore resources in collaboration with project managers, discipline leadership, and operations teams.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between offshore design teams and internal project leadership, resolving design questions, workflow issues, and coordination challenges.
  • Develop scalable processes, documentation standards, and training initiatives that support efficient integration of offshore engineering resources into project delivery workflows.
  • Monitor offshore team performance metrics related to quality, responsiveness, productivity, and technical accuracy, providing coaching and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for assigned projects, assuming responsible charge for electrical system design, technical accuracy, code compliance, and signed/sealed construction documents where licensed.
  • Review and approve final electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and engineering deliverables prior to issuance for permit, bidding, and construction.
  • Maintain accountability for compliance with applicable building codes, energy codes, life safety standards, and jurisdictional requirements across assigned projects.
  • Participate in client presentations, authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) meetings, and construction coordination discussions as the responsible engineering representative for electrical scope.
  • Provide leadership in managing technical risk, design liability, and engineering decision-making associated with projects under responsible charge.
  • Mentor junior engineers and electrical designers, providing real-time coaching, delegation guidance, and professional development support.
  • Collaborate with project managers and firm leadership on fee development, staffing strategies, and discipline resourcing for electrical work.
  • Lead technical segments of meetings with clients, building officials, and consultants, communicating electrical design direction and resolving complex issues.
  • Guide electrical response strategies to field conditions, code conflicts, and VE proposals with clarity and ownership.
  • Influence client expectations around quality, performance, technical decisions, and lifecycle outcomes of electrical systems.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent required.
  • P.E. licensure required.
  • 15+ years in the AEC Industry required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating offshore or distributed engineering production teams required.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary workflows across multiple time zones while maintaining project quality, schedule, and communication standards required.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record for large complex projects with focus on data center projects required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in applicable U.S. jurisdictions required; NCEES member and ability to obtain additional state registrations as needed preferred.
  • Strong understanding of responsible charge requirements, engineering ethics, document control, and professional practice standards required.
  • Experience reviewing and sealing electrical construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations required.
  • Ability to mentor technical staff, lead production teams, and influence engineering standards across geographically diverse teams required.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and team development skills required.
  • Experience implementing QAQC procedures across remote or hybrid engineering delivery models preferred.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with clients, contractors, consultants, and international team members required.
  • Revit experience required.
  • Experience with computers, specifically for word processing, spreadsheet use/creation and email required.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and curious personalities required.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations required.
