Job Description

Prescient Edge is seeking a Electrical Engineer to support a Federal Government client.

Position Overview

Prescient Edge is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support U.S. Navy Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV) acceptance, integration, test, modernization, and lifecycle engineering activities. This is the component-level, micro engineering role within the MUSV acceptance team, focused on the electrical and electronic details that make individual vessel subsystems function correctly. The engineer will work hands-on with cabling, connectors, power distribution, sensors, controls, electrical interfaces, and installed equipment to verify configuration, troubleshoot faults, support alterations and repairs, and ensure subsystem-level issues are resolved before they affect overall vessel readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Installation, Cabling & Component Integration
  • Support installation, inspection, modification, and verification of vessel electrical and electronic components, including cabling, connectors, junctions, panels, sensors, controllers, power supplies, and related hardware.
  • Review and validate cable routing, terminations, pinouts, connector configurations, wiring diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and equipment installation details against approved technical documentation.
  • Support integration of electrical/electronic equipment with vessel mechanical, control, communications, payload, navigation, and autonomy-related subsystems while verifying required power, signal, grounding, and interface connections.
  • Identify installation deficiencies, workmanship issues, configuration mismatches, damaged components, or interface problems and coordinate corrective actions with the appropriate engineering or maintenance personnel.

Electrical Power, Troubleshooting & Technical Support
  • Troubleshoot component- and subsystem-level electrical faults using multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, network analyzers, manufacturer diagnostic tools, and other appropriate test equipment.
  • Evaluate alternating current/direct current (AC/DC) power generation, conversion, distribution, storage, circuit protection, grounding, bonding, shielding, and electrical-safety issues affecting installed vessel equipment.
  • Perform technical analysis and fault isolation for sensors, actuators, motors, control circuits, communications interfaces, instrumentation, and other electrical/electronic equipment supporting MUSV operations.
  • Coordinate with Marine Systems Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Government engineers, operators, vendors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and maintenance personnel to resolve subsystem-level electrical deficiencies.

Test, Acceptance & Verification
  • Support electrical inspections, system checkout, integration, operational test, acceptance, and readiness events in laboratory, waterfront, shipboard, and field environments.
  • Execute or support test procedures; capture objective evidence; document discrepancies; verify continuity, power, signal integrity, equipment operation, and corrective actions; and support retest of affected components or subsystems.
  • Assess test results and technical data to determine whether electrical installations, interfaces, and equipment meet applicable requirements, drawings, standards, and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide clear technical findings, deficiency descriptions, recommended corrective actions, and status updates to engineering, program, and operational stakeholders.

Documentation & Team Integration
  • Develop and maintain electrical engineering documentation, redlines, schematics, wiring information, configuration records, discrepancy reports, test results, technical reports, and recommendations for decision support.
  • Support watercraft lifecycle engineering, engineering change implementation, craft alteration and repair activities, material/component identification, and configuration verification for affected electrical and electronic systems.
  • Communicate electrical issues early, work effectively within an integrated Government-contractor team, and help drive component- and subsystem-level technical actions through resolution.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's-level degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of professional electrical/electronics engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical/electronic systems, cabling, connectors, wiring, power distribution, sensors, controls, instrumentation, or comparable component-level engineering work.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory, grounding, bonding, circuit protection, power conversion, batteries or energy-storage systems, and electrical safety.
  • Ability to read, develop, review, or modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable-routing drawings, pinouts, panel layouts, and related engineering documentation using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools.
  • Experience performing electrical troubleshooting, fault isolation, inspection, integration, test and evaluation, or acceptance activities using standard electrical test equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work hands-on with engineers, technicians, operators, vendors, and Government stakeholders in dynamic test environments.
  • Ability to meet applicable SECRET clearance, safety, security, site-access, and physical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting unmanned surface vehicles, autonomous systems, military boats/craft, maritime electronics, or comparable complex mobile platforms.
  • Experience with marine electrical systems, shipboard or small-craft power distribution, navigation equipment, communications, radar, sensors, remote command-and-control, or data-acquisition systems.
  • Experience with electrical installation, craft alteration, repair, cable fabrication or routing, connector termination, component replacement, and waterfront troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), embedded controllers, motor controllers, vessel-monitoring systems, serial/Ethernet communications, or control-system interfaces.
  • Knowledge of marine electrical standards, American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) requirements, C4ISR interface considerations, cybersecurity constraints affecting installed systems, electromagnetic compatibility/interference (EMC/EMI), shielding, or electrical-noise mitigation.
  • Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Travel / Work Environment
  • Approximately 25-50% travel is expected, depending on test schedules, operational requirements, and mission needs. Travel may include multi-day or extended support at customer, waterfront, shipboard, remote, and operational test locations. The position primarily supports hands-on electrical engineering, installation verification, troubleshooting, inspection, integration, and test activities in laboratory, pier-side, shipboard, industrial, field, and outdoor maritime environments. Candidates must be comfortable with periodic travel, changing schedules, adverse weather, and supporting vessel operations and test events as required.
