ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Primary Function:

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for handling or supervise those handling specific projects as directed by the Manager of Engineering. Projects include estimating cost design, layout and specs for materials and installation, obtaining bids for equipment and labor, and supervise the complete installation and startup. Projects range from minor modifications to large equipment installations. In addition, the Electrical Engineer will assist maintenance personnel with electrical troubleshooting related to PLC, HMI's and other higher level electrical devices. This includes accountability for instructing and monitoring safety of all maintenance personnel, specifically with electrical safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash/Electrical Safety Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The person in this position will be utilized in a wide variety of situations. Regular duties are listed below. The position will be assigned to special projects as the plant identifies new areas in need of improvement. These special projects may be related to Safety, Regulatory, Process Improvement, Facility Improvement, etc.
  • Engineering Activities (~70% of Time)
    • Design in-house equipment modifications and new installations to provide increased productivity. This requires electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge.
    • Troubleshoot maintenance and production problems on equipment to reduce downtime by utilizing technical knowledge, troubleshooting techniques, and available test equipment.
    • Plan, supervise, and communicate modifications to equipment to ensure safety, cost savings, and increase productivity.
    • Prepare sketches for fabrications, modifications, and installation of equipment to ensure the safety and productive operation of said equipment. Define parts, order parts, write reports, communicate project status, and update department project lists and review Maintenance Department's previous night's activities.
    • Create new and update old drawings using a CAD system.
  • Other Misc. Duties (~30% of Time)
    • Attend and contribute regularly to job related plant initiatives (i.e. Safety, COS, Cost Savings).


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to read and understand the various schematics and electrical prints for the equipment in CCM Greenville
  • Ability to program and modify PLCs, VFDs, HMIs and other programmable equipment.
  • Understand and adhere to the guidelines of an electrical safety plan based on NFPA, OSHA, NEC, Etc. codes and using it to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Proficiency with utilizing a computer, including Microsoft Office, SAP, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to access and utilize the software associated with the various VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware, and HMIs utilized throughout CCM Greenville.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills: written, oral, and electronic

Equipment/Data:

Be able to operate electrical troubleshooting equipment, such as a multimeter, megger, oscilloscope, current probe, and computer.

Be able to understand, modify, train others on PLC, VFD, Safety Controllers, and other electrical control devices.

Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
    • Equivalency: Some college coursework with a scheduled completion of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering within six months of the hire date.
  • Experience:
    • Three or more years at a manufacturing facility working on electrical troubleshooting, PLC programming, VFD programming, HMIs, communication protocols, etc. Ability to function in a team environment, work well with others, and able to manage priorities.


Work Environment/Time Worked:
  • Work Environment:
    • Approximately 70% of work time is spent in a climate controlled, relatively clean and quiet office environment. The remaining 30% is spent in a manufacturing plant environment working on projects or inventory related activities. On occasion this person will be required to attend meetings. The job itself can be very stressful at times and can require a fast pace. There will be occasions where machine failures will require intense focus and quick resolution while maintaining a safe work performance. These machine failures can happen at non-traditional work hours. An individual must be able to work on several different projects simultaneously and in order of priority to meet deadlines.
  • Time Worked:
    • Core Hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; 40 Hours/Week, Monday through Friday
    • The core hours are required to interface with other daylight departments and support groups. Depending on projects, additional time outside of the core hours may be required.
    • Comments - Due to the nature of the operation, this position will require occasional phone calls during off hours in order to keep production running or for the safety of the facility.


Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, some climbing stairs including catwalks, silos, ladders, etc. will be required along with stooping, bending and lifting. Sight and hearing is required to not only observe the process and personnel but also to effectively communicate with people and assist with problem solving. Must be able to move freely between facilities on the campus, as well as within each facility, in order to observe work processes and assist with problem solving and troubleshooting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no direct reports for this position but there are times when supervising maintenance or production operators will be required.

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Salary Range: $75k - $125k (dependent on applicable education/experience)
