Full Job Description
Electrical Design Engineer

Chatsworth - California, USA | Regular, Full-Time | 9/80 Work Schedule

The opportunity

As an Electrical Design Engineer at Ontic, you'll help develop and sustain the aerospace products our customers depend on throughout their lifecycle. You'll work across both new product introduction and established products, solving design challenges that can affect performance, manufacturability and the continued availability of critical components.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity where you'll take ownership of defined design assignments and turn technical requirements into practical, supportable solutions. From investigating product issues and managing obsolescence-driven redesigns to supporting prototypes and controlled design changes, your work will help keep products performing reliably for the long term.

You'll collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, customers and other engineering disciplines, balancing technical requirements with quality, schedule and cost while maintaining the integrity of the product design.

This role requires approximately 50% travel for the next 18 months to support business and engineering needs. Candidates should be comfortable with this level of travel as an essential requirement of the position.

What you'll be doing
  • Develop and modify electrical and electromechanical product designs to meet functional, manufacturability and lifecycle-support requirements.
  • Investigate product performance, obsolescence and component-availability issues, developing practical design solutions and assessing suitable alternative materials or components.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of material and associated technical data while protecting design intent and configuration control.
  • Support new product introduction, prototype builds and engineering evaluations, translating design requirements into manufacturing instructions, test needs and tooling requirements.
  • Perform root cause investigations and develop corrective actions and controlled design changes to resolve product and manufacturing issues.
  • Work with Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers and other engineering teams to resolve design-for-manufacture challenges while balancing technical, quality, schedule and cost requirements.
  • Support products throughout their lifecycle, from new product introduction and verification through sustainment, redesign and retirement.
  • Travel approximately 50% for the next 18 months to support engineering, operational and business requirements.

What you'll bring
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in a design engineering or technical support role within a design or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience creating or maintaining CAD models, engineering drawings and controlled technical data for mechanical or electromechanical products.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, geometric tolerances, design intent and manufacturing constraints, supported by strong practical engineering and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience investigating product issues and applying root cause and corrective-action methods to design updates.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools, along with an understanding of configuration management and controlled engineering change.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction, product sustainment or obsolescence-driven redesign would be advantageous, as would experience within aerospace or another regulated industry and familiarity with Windchill or another product lifecycle management system.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% for the next 18 months.
