Full Job Description
We are seeking qualified, experienced engineers who are fluent in both English and Korean (written and spoken),with strong technical backgrounds in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics to join us as Scientific Advisors in our Electrical & Computer Technologies (ECT) group. This position can be based in our Boston, New York, or Washington, DC office or be fully remote. The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this role, candidates will actively apply technical expertise to support the firm and its client's complex Intellectual Property ("IP") needs while collaboratively working with attorneys, legal practitioners, and other team members. This position will play a key role in important functions such as the preparation of patent applications and drafting of formal requests to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") to grant patents for inventions. This position offers a hands-on introduction to and training for becoming a Scientific Advisor, so prior IP or patent law experience is not necessary.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing technical disclosures - the detailed descriptions of new inventions that help determine whether the client should or can obtain a patent
  • Participating in client and inventor interviews to define a clear understanding of the complexities surrounding new inventions
  • Conducting comprehensive research in patent databases and non-patent literature to ensure the firm's attorneys and legal practitioners have the necessary information to assess the legal viability and patentability of new inventions
  • Drafting patent applications, including preparing detailed specifications and claims that describe the new inventions and provide support during the application process with the USPTO
  • Assisting firm attorneys and legal practitioners in developing and drafting arguments in response to communications from the USPTO to secure patents


Qualifications:
  • Strong academic credentials including a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field of study
  • Fluency in both English and Korean (written and spoken)
  • 10+ years of applicable industry experience in engineering or a related capacity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to present findings in a professional and organized manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize while managing multiple deadlines and work requests
  • Sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of legal practitioners within the firm's organization
  • Eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration examination if not already registered.
