Full Job Description

We are seeking an Early Career Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to join Amentum’s Advanced Solutions Group. Candidates may be based at either our Tullahoma, TN or Farmington Hills, MI office.

Our Advanced Solutions Group delivers the design, construction, and operation of unique and complex research and development facilities across the nuclear, automotive, motorsports, defense, and aerospace industries. Our team has supported an impressive range of clients, including Audi, Boeing, BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, Honda, General Motors, NASA, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Energy, Volkswagen, and organizations throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

Essential Responsibilities:

This Early Career Controls & Instrumentation Engineer role will support projects ranging from small studies to multi-million-dollar turnkey solutions. The successful candidate will be team-oriented, organized, and an effective communicator who can meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with engineering and business professionals to ensure client satisfaction and deliver projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Developing hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for SCADA systems.
  • Developing control system software designs.
  • Developing control system software including PLC programming and HMI development.
  • Developing interfaces to facility equipment using various industrial control protocols (MODBUS TCP, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, etc.)
  • Applying closed loop controls methods to control continuously variable systems.
  • Supporting hardware assembly and fabrication through panel shop testing.
  • Performing light installation tasks on-site for commissioning efforts.
  • Performing on-site facility startup, checkout, and commissioning activities, both domestically and abroad, under supervision.
  • Communicating with clients and management regarding project status.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure success.
  • Completing project milestones to ensure project completion within technical scope, budget, and client schedule.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • US citizenship is required to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, and commissioning.
  • An ability to work as a team member on single and multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver technically successful control and data systems, often unique one-of-a-kind systems. Must be willing to learn from senior engineers and mentors.
  • A desire to develop ingenious alternative approaches to challenges, and drive innovation during all phases of projects.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience as a PLC and HMI software developer in one of the major environments (for instance, Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, Emerson PC ME) with a working knowledge of the other environments.
  • Some experience selecting, specifying, and procuring process instrumentation and actuation hardware, control and data acquisition system hardware, PLCs, drive and motion systems, automation network hardware, interconnect cabling and supporting equipment.
  • EIT – FE Exam passed, or pursuing EIT.

Description of Work Environment:

  • Work will mainly be performed in an inside-office environment.
  • Field work may be required, including outside work.
  • Most of the travel relates to the commissioning and site acceptance efforts. These trips can range from a single week to multiple consecutive weeks, depending on the project assigned to the candidate.

       

Compensation Details:

$80,000- $115,000
