Description
Established in 2010 at the request of the G20, the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) is a global financing instrument designed to invest in agriculture and food security in low-income countries. Hosted by the World Bank as a Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF), GAFSP aims to reduce poverty, improve food and nutrition security, and strengthen the resilience of smallholder farmers through investments and technical assistance along the agri-food value chain. Since inception, GAFSP has received over $2 billion in funding from 12 donors and supports over 80 projects across 40+ countries. GAFSP's unique governance structure features equal representation of donors and recipient countries, with Supervising Entities (SEs) such as the World Bank, IFC, regional development banks, and Rome-based UN agencies implementing the portfolio. Further details on GAFSP can be found on the website: www.gafspfund.org
GCF:
The World Bank is a leading partner of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), serving both as an Accredited Entity and as Trustee of the GCF Trust Fund. The Bank manages the largest GCF implementation portfolio among accredited entities, with investments spanning adaptation, mitigation, renewable energy, resilience, and nature-based solutions across developing countries. The World Bank's Green Climate Fund (GCF) portfolio comprises 14 projects across four regions - Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe/Central Asia/Middle East (ECAMA), and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Total GCF funding commitments stand at approximately $1.54 billion, supported by approximately $5.11 billion in co-financing.
