Description
Background
The Latin America and Caribbean unit of the Agriculture and Food Global Practice (SLCAG) supports LAC countries with the knowledge, investment and technology to turn their agriculture and food sectors into engines of growth and opportunity. With AgriConnect increasingly shaping the direction of SLCAG's work, the unit is placing emphasis on translating knowledge, technology, and investment into practical solutions that improve productivity, resilience, and market opportunities for farmers across LAC. To advance this agenda, SLCAG requires an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to provide technical and operational support in the areas of sustainable livestock development, including the One Health agenda and efforts to address climate impacts and methane emissions, and accelerating the adoption of agricultural technologies and improved practices by family farmers. The ETC would help integrate these priorities across the unit's analytical and advisory work and lending portfolio, supporting the implementation of AgriConnect in the region.
Tasks
Under the guidance of the SLCAG Practice Manager, the ETC will provide support to the AGF Task Team Leaders (TTLs) working on AGF operations and analytics across SLCAG countries. In particular, the ETC will support the unit to implement several TF-funded activities linked to the AgriConnect LAC roll out, in particular on the themes of sustainable livestock (One Health, climate / GHGs) and adoption of Ag Tech and Practices by family farmers. These include:
• Leading the coordination of country-specific and regional-level analytical work on One Health, in collaboration with the Bank's Health and Environment units in LAC as well as partners including WHO/PAHO, FAO, WOAH, and UNEP.
• Supporting the integration of the unit's One Health work into AgriConnect Action Plans of first and second mover countries.
• Supporting the unit's work on Ag Tech and Practice adoption by family farmers, particularly those related to climate / GHGs and agricultural waste / pollution.
• Coordinating the GHG and other sustainability assessments of Bank-supported projects supported by the Methane for Development (CH4D) program, focusing on projects with significant livestock activities.
• Supporting the design and launch of a Global Center of Excellence on Sustainable Livestock anchored in LAC.
• Supporting the development of sustainable livestock knowledge programs to be incorporated into the One WBG Knowledge Academy.
• Providing technical and operational support to ensure the effective design and implementation of projects and analytical work in the unit.
• Coordinating and participating in events, workshops, and activities related to the activities of the unit.
• Undertake other tasks as agreed with the Practice Manager and/or Task Team Leaders from time to time.
Communications/Travel Requirements and Expenses
Insofar as relevant, travel and accommodation expenses related to work will be reimbursed by the Bank under prevailing Bank rules. The ETC is expected to maintain and submit all receipts for claiming travel and related accommodation reimbursements and will be expected to comply with all Bank safety & security procedures/ protocols in place and in effect at the time of travel.
The ETC will be based in Washington, DC under the overall supervision of the Practice Manager.
