Full Job Description
This is a full-time, in-office role based in downtown Minneapolis. Limited travel may be required for manager meetings, investment conferences, and due diligence visits.

Summary

The Due Diligence and Investment Analyst Senior serves as a key member of CLA Wealth Advisory's Portfolio Strategy team and is responsible for the research, evaluation, recommendation, and ongoing monitoring of investment managers and strategies utilized across the firm's public and private investment platforms.

This role leads comprehensive investment due diligence efforts across a variety of investment vehicles and structures. The individual will evaluate investment managers, analyze financial and operational risks, conduct manager meetings, assess organizational stability, and develop investment recommendations for presentation to the CLA Investment Committee.

In addition to manager research responsibilities, this role contributes to the firm's investment research agenda, market insights, advisor education, and client-facing thought leadership, including the annual CLA Outlook and other investment presentations.

This position is highly analytical and research-driven.

Essential Job Functions

• Lead investment due diligence efforts for public and private market investment strategies utilized across the CLA investment platform.
• Conduct comprehensive qualitative and quantitative evaluations of investment managers, including investment philosophy, portfolio construction process, risk management framework, organizational structure, ownership, succession planning, and operational controls.
• Analyze manager financial statements, capital structure, revenue sources, profitability, and overall business stability.
• Evaluate and monitor investment vehicle structures, including separately managed accounts (SMAs), mutual funds, open-end funds, closed-end funds, interval funds, private funds and limited partnerships, and collective investment trusts (CITs).
• Lead manager meetings, due diligence calls, and on-site visits, documenting findings and identifying key investment and operational risks.
• Prepare formal due diligence reports and recommendation memorandums for presentation to the CLA Investment Committee.
• Present findings and investment recommendations directly to senior leadership and committee members.
• Perform ongoing monitoring of approved managers and strategies, identifying material organizational, operational, or investment-related developments.
• Maintain due diligence databases, manager scorecards, monitoring frameworks, and research files.
• Coordinate internal review processes with compliance, operations, trading, and portfolio implementation teams.
• Assist in the development of strategic asset allocation, capital market assumptions, and portfolio construction research.
• Conduct macroeconomic, capital markets, and investment research to support advisor education and client communications.
• Develop content and analysis supporting the annual CLA Outlook publication and other firmwide investment research initiatives.
• Develop executive-level presentations on investment research, market insights, manager evaluations, and portfolio strategy recommendations.
• Utilize advanced financial modeling and analytical techniques to support investment selection decisions.
• Ensure all activities comply with regulatory, fiduciary, and internal investment governance standards.
• Act as the subject matter expert for multiple account platform types, including 401(k)s, HSAs, trusts, corporations, and other retirement, individual, and institutional account structures.

Requirements

Experience:

Four or more years of relevant investment industry experience required.

Experience preferred in:
  • Investment due diligence, manager research, investment consulting, institutional research, or investment analyst experience.
  • Evaluating both public and private market investment strategies.
  • Conducting investment manager meetings and preparing investment recommendations for committee review.
  • Within a registered investment advisory (RIA), institutional consulting firm, family office, wealth management platform, investment manager, law firm, or public accounting environment.
  • In audit, transaction advisory, investment operations, legal review, or fund structuring.


Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Certifications / Licenses:
• CFA Charterholder required.
• Series 7 License and Series 63, 65, or 66 Licenses required.
