The Drainage Engineer applies sound engineering judgment, technical knowledge, and project experience to support accurate, timely, and high-quality project delivery in alignment with Ferrovial standards, client requirements, applicable regulations, and project expectations.
Responsibilities and Duties: Drainage Design and Plan Production - Prepare and support drainage designs, plan sheets, exhibits, layouts, and supporting documentation for highways, runways, and related transportation infrastructure projects.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, roadway drainage design, stormwater management, and related drainage engineering tasks in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
- Apply civil engineering principles and project experience to develop practical, constructible, and cost-effective drainage solutions, including design optimizations and value engineering alternatives.
Technical Studies, Specifications, and Calculations - Review specifications, standards, contract documents, design criteria, and project requirements to confirm drainage-related design expectations and technical requirements.
- Prepare, review, and document drainage calculations, quantity estimates, assumptions, conclusions, recommendations, and supporting technical information.
- Develop and support technical reports, design memorandums, project documentation, responses to comments, and drainage design deliverables for timely submittal.
Project Coordination and Submittal Support - Coordinate with internal engineering teams, consultants, subconsultants, construction teams, agencies, and project staff to clarify design intent, resolve comments, and support project delivery.
- Coordinate drainage requirements with roadway, structures, utilities, geotechnical, environmental, maintenance of traffic, construction, and other disciplines to support an integrated project design.
- Participate in and contribute to design coordination discussions, technical reviews, project meetings, field observations, RFIs, submittals, and drainage-related documentation requests.
Design Review, Documentation, and Quality Support - Review construction documents, drawings, specifications, calculations, and engineering information to support accurate and coordinated drainage design development.
- Perform design checks on drainage designs, plan sheets, calculations, quantities, and supporting documents prepared by consultants, subconsultants, or internal team members.
- Maintain organized design files and documentation while identifying and helping resolve technical discrepancies, coordination issues, constructability concerns, or missing information.
Other Duties and Team Support - Support senior engineers, design managers, project engineers, and project staff with drainagerelated tasks, technical exhibits, design documentation, reviews, and coordination as needed.
- Demonstrate strong communication, accountability, attention to detail, teamwork, integrity, ethics, leadership, and commitment to high standards.
- Support a collaborative, fast-paced project environment by managing priorities, meeting deadlines, mentoring less experienced team members when appropriate, maintaining a continuous improvement mindset, and performing other related duties as needed.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in civil engineering, transportation design, drainage design, hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, roadway drainage, or related infrastructure design.
- Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification is preferred; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or progress toward licensure is a plus.
- Working knowledge of MicroStation, GEOPAK Drainage, StormCAD, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, or similar hydrology and hydraulics software is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, technical plans, design criteria, and engineering information and support engineering calculations, quantity estimates, and technical recommendations with moderate independence.
- Strong understanding of civil infrastructure, transportation project development, drainage discipline requirements, interdisciplinary coordination, and project delivery expectations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, teamwork, and deadline-management skills in a fast-paced project environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to high standards, integrity, ethics, leadership, quality, continuous learning, and professional development.
