What is the Opportunity?As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
The Drafting Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the drafting function to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality technical drawings and deliverables. This role provides day-to-day leadership to drafting personnel, manages workload priorities, maintains drafting standards, and collaborates closely with Engineering, Project Management, Fabrication, Construction, Quality, and other stakeholders to support safe and efficient project execution.
This position is located in Cambridge, ON.
What You'll Do Here:- Manage, mentor, and provide technical direction to drafters, designers, and external drafting resources as required.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign drafting work to meet project schedules, production needs, and client commitments.
- Work with project controls personnel to develop and update project schedules.
- Report on key drafting metrics and develop corrective actions as required.
- Review drawings, models, sketches, and technical documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, compliance with applicable codes, and alignment with project requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain drafting standards, templates, procedures, naming conventions, drawing controls, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Fabrication, Construction, Quality, Procurement, and subcontractors to clarify design requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Support the development and maintenance of drawing registers, document control processes, revision tracking, and record drawings.
- Monitor drafting deliverables, identify resource constraints or schedule risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure drafting outputs support fabrication, installation, inspection, procurement, and turnover requirements.
- Promote consistency, continuous improvement, and efficient use of CAD, 3D modelling, document management, and related drafting tools.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, training, and development support to drafting team members.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, constructability reviews, planning sessions, and lessons learned activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements, quality standards, client specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
What You Bring to the Team:- Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Civil/Structural Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive drafting/design experience, preferably in an engineering, construction, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory, lead hand, or team leadership experience is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, Navisworks, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
- Strong working knowledge of technical drawings, fabrication drawings, construction drawings, weld symbols, revision control, and document management practices.
- Experience interpreting engineering specifications, codes, standards, contract documents, and client requirements.
- Experience managing drafting standards, drawing quality checks, workload planning, and coordination across multiple projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and document control systems.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy and quality.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and the ability to make timely decisions.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain effective systems for tracking work, revisions, and deliverables.

Salary range: $95,000 - $150,000 per year.
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
