The Department of Pediatrics at Duke University School of Medicine invites applications for Chief of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished physician leader to guide a collaborative, academically distinguished division and help shape the future of pediatric emergency care at Duke and across North Carolina.

The next Division Chief will also have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic planning and development of the future North Carolina Children's Hospital-a transformative initiative that will advance pediatric care, research, education, and innovation across the state and beyond.

The Leadership Opportunity

The Division Chief will lead a distinguished team of faculty committed to providing exceptional, family-centered care in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Duke Children's Hospital.

Working closely with departmental, hospital, and health system leaders, the Chief will provide strategic, operational, and academic leadership across the division's clinical, educational, research, and quality missions.

Key priorities include:
  • Advancing clinical excellence, patient safety, and the patient and family experience
  • Developing innovative clinical programs and care delivery models
  • Recruiting, mentoring, and retaining outstanding faculty
  • Supporting faculty development, professional growth, and career advancement
  • Strengthening programs in research, quality improvement, and medical education

Candidate Qualifications

Qualified candidates must:
  • Hold an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Be board-certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Be eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina
  • Qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at Duke University School of Medicine
  • Demonstrate leadership achievement in clinical care, education, scholarship, faculty development, or administration
