Discipline Lead, Utilities to join our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA) in Canada. This senior leadership role is responsible for leading our utilities discipline, guiding a team of engineers and designers, and ensuring the successful delivery of utility design, coordination, and relocation projects across major infrastructure programs. The role combines technical expertise, project delivery, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality outcomes.
Role Accountabilities:As the
Discipline Lead, Utilities, you will provide leadership to the utilities team while overseeing the successful delivery of utility design and coordination projects across the infrastructure sector. You will help foster a collaborative, high-performing environment, guide project planning and execution from concept through completion, and work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality, efficiency, and timely delivery.
You will act as the technical lead for utility engineering and design, applying expertise in wet and dry utilities, utility coordination, protection and relocation design, and utility conflict resolution. This role will involve leading the development of practical, high-quality engineering solutions, supporting field reviews and assessments, and overseeing the preparation of technical reports, drawings, memos, and specifications. You will also ensure that all work is delivered in accordance with applicable regulations, codes, standards, and utility owner requirements.
A key part of the role will be leading utility designs for municipal, transportation, and transit projects, including detailed design for temporary and permanent utility relocations involving watermain, sanitary and storm sewers. You will evaluate technical alternatives, resolve complex design issues, and coordinate closely with other disciplines to support integrated project delivery. You will also guide the development of utility protection and relocation plans through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases using applicable design tools.
Beyond project delivery, you will play an important role in strengthening client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the practice. This will include collaborating with clients, contractors, third-party utility stakeholders, and internal teams to understand project needs, maintain a strong client experience, and contribute to business development activities that expand Arcadis' presence in the utilities sector. You will also support the growth of the discipline by mentoring team members, helping build a diverse and capable team, and encouraging continuous learning and innovation. Technical Director.
Qualifications & Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with P.Eng. designation, or eligibility for registration, in Alberta or British Columbia.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in utility design, utility coordination, and relocation planning for infrastructure projects
- Proven track record in project management, team leadership, and mentoring
- In-depth knowledge and in depth experience in application of utility design standards, coordination practices, and relevant regulations
- Experience delivering projects for municipalities and other transportation or transit agencies
- Proficiency in CAD and design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other Bentley or Autodesk tools
- Experience preparing and reviewing preliminary and detailed utility design drawings, reports, and technical memos
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and third-party utility stakeholders, with experience supporting business development and proposal preparation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience with trenchless methods, construction fieldwork, and familiarity with municipal and road authority standards are considered assets
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
