The Mandate: This role is effectively the general manager of TeraFab field operations. You will build the team, define the operating model, lead field execution, and create the feedback loop to engineering required to make the technology work reliably in the real world.
The Role
The Director of TeraFab Operations is responsible for building and running the field operations function for TeraFab. This is a build-out leadership role with accountability for operating performance, cost, and execution. The person in this role will build the first core team, run the function with business discipline, and stay close enough to the work to solve real operational problems hands-on.
This person must own the outcome. They should be comfortable with P/L responsibility, able to hire and develop strong leaders, and capable of building an operation that can scale with the business.
TeraFab systems will likely operate across more than one shift, with two shifts per day where project conditions allow. This role therefore requires a leader who can build the structure, staffing model, training approach, and field cadence needed to support sustained execution across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
Build and run the function
• Define the operating model for deployment, field execution, and site readiness so the operation is repeatable and scalable.
• Own operating performance, end-to-end field execution, and cost for the function.
• Establish the management cadence, decision-making structure, and operating rhythm required to move from early deployments to sustained operations.
• Build the field-to-engineering feedback loop needed to identify, escalate, and resolve technical and operational issues quickly.
Build the team
• Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of leaders and frontline personnel capable of operating in demanding field environments.
• Build the workforce pipeline, hiring process, onboarding approach, and training systems needed to support growth.
• Create a culture of accountability, urgency, professionalism, and hands-on problem solving.
Build the support backbone
• Ensure the organization can support multi-shift operations where needed, including the right supervisory structure and safety discipline.
• Develop the logistics and lifecycle support model for maintenance, staging, storage, and refurbishment.
• Help define and stand up a central hub in the Dallas area to support field operations, equipment readiness, and training.
Deliver execution in the field
• Stay close to the work and step into real operational challenges directly when needed.
• Ensure teams execute safely, efficiently, and professionally at customer and project sites.
• Partner effectively across engineering, product, project, and commercial teams to remove constraints and improve field performance.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks related to staffing, logistics, site readiness, scheduling, and technical support.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in field operations, construction operations, deployment leadership, service operations, or a similarly execution-heavy environment.
• Proven ability to run an operation with accountability for performance, cost, and execution.
• Comfortable with P/L responsibility and managing a function with business discipline.
• Proven success hiring strong talent and building leaders who can perform in the field.
• Enough technical depth to lead credibly around hardware, robotics, and field performance, and to work effectively with engineering on root-cause resolution.
• Strong judgment, high ownership, and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving situations.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively and spend significant time in the field.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in field operations, construction operations, deployment leadership, service operations, or a similarly execution-heavy environment. • Utility-scale solar construction experience on large, complex projects.
• Proven ability to run an operation with accountability for performance, cost, and execution.
• Experience supporting shift-based or multi-shift field operations.
• Comfortable with P/L responsibility and managing a function with business discipline.
• Experience in field service, heavy equipment, industrial systems, or robotics.
• Proven success hiring strong talent and building leaders who can perform in the field.
• Experience building logistics, maintenance, refurbishment, or asset-readiness programs.
• Enough technical depth to lead credibly around hardware, robotics, and field performance, and to work effectively with engineering on root-cause resolution.
• Experience launching regional hubs or training centers.
