Full Job Description
The Director, Technical Accounting will be principally responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Vacation Ownership segment related to all aspects of US GAAP financial reporting, external SEC reporting, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, accounting analysis and modeling for prospective strategic transactions and acquisitions, technical accounting research, development of accounting positions, and other analysis and reporting requirements.

Additionally, the Director will direct the day-to-day operations of the corporate accounting team for the Vacation Ownership segment. This entails managing month-end and quarter-end close processes, overseeing the accounting for all operating and capital leases, allocations, P-Card, Concur accruals, tax provisions, monthly rent, intercompany transactions, goodwill and intangible asset analysis, and foreign entity currency translations.

They will direct staff activities by reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries, allocating resources properly to ensure deadlines are adhered to, and providing guidance and training to staff and liaise with department leaders across the Company to resolve accounting issues relating to business deals, complex transactions, and other accounting topics.

The Director will oversee the external audit process related to the Vacation Ownership segment. Meet regularly with the external audit team, directs audit requests, and provides timely responses to inquiries.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Technical Accounting
  • Work closely with the product and business development teams, conducting technical accounting and reporting research and analysis to develop accounting positions for new products or changes to existing products, contractual relationships to ensure proper revenue recognition, expense recognition, cash flow treatment and/or balance sheet classifications
  • Leads monthly meetings with accounting, finance, real estate, strategic development & acquisitions, and legal departments to discuss upcoming business transaction and ensure appropriate recording and classification
  • Leads monthly meetings with Corporate Real Estate to review all new, amended, and/or renewed leases
  • Responsible for the lease accounting database in CoStar system
  • Research complex accounting issues and effectively communicate findings to Senior Leadership
  • Review and approve Project Funding Requests (PFRs) involving lease components
  • Prepare memorandums to document accounting positions for significant transactions
  • Present accounting positions to external auditors to ensure appropriate accounting treatment, documentation, and compliance


Vacation Ownership Accounting
  • Manages the month-end financial close process for the Vacation Ownership segment
  • Leads the monthly consolidation process
  • Reviews direct reports monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Oversees the accounting for all Vacation Ownership segment leases, ensures appropriate lease classification, and prepares lease schedules for external reporting purposes
  • Leads monthly meetings with the Vacation Ownership international accounting teams to communicate upcoming deadlines, discuss current transactions, month-end close status, and any potential accounting issues
  • Reviews and approves up to 100+ invoices for payment each month and oversees the monthly process to pay office rent at various corporate and sales offices
  • Oversees the Unclaimed Property process and collaborates with vendor on identifying and clearing outstanding checks
  • Prepares monthly inventory roll-forward summary file for the Inventory Management team
  • Reviews monthly non-cash transfer file
  • Reviews the quarterly reporting packages for the Vacation Ownership segment to support SEC filings
  • Present balance sheet and income statement flux analysis to Senior Leadership
  • Prepares accounting memorandums to document quarterly impairment evaluation for long-lived assets, intangible assets and goodwill.
  • Manages the completion of several government and industry surveys on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Responsible for the Vacation Ownership segment disclosures within 10-Q /10-K filings with the SEC
  • Preparation of the MD&A section for the Vacation Ownership segment within the organization's 10-Q / 10-K filings with the SEC
  • Reviews footnote disclosures within the organization's 10-Q / 10-K filings with the SEC
  • Reviews representation letters from unit/area leaders, consolidates responses and communicates any passed or out of period adjustments to senior management, and signs the representation letter for the consolidated Vacation Ownership segment
  • Prepares quarterly US GAAP compliance checklist memorandum to document the Company's consideration and accounting position on new accounting pronouncements
  • Completes the annual US GAAP compliance checklist for the Vacation Ownership segment
  • Prepares quarterly standalone financial statements for Debt Covenant Compliance Certificate
  • Assists with preparation and review of debt offering circulars
  • Manage internal and external controls and Auditor requests
  • Manage internal and external audit requests for the Vacation Ownership segment and inform auditors of non-routine transactions
  • Meet weekly with external auditors to discuss any upcoming/outstanding PBC request items and assist with distributing requests
  • Track summary of passed adjustments and monitor company risk of material misstatements
  • Prepares quarterly documentation of passed disclosures for the Vacation Ownership segment
  • Ensures Vacation Ownership controls are documented and operating effectively
