Job Description

The Director of Sterile Processing is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of personnel engaged in the production of patient care items for surgical and medical procedures. The incumbent manages the purchasing and production responsibilities to insure adequate quantity and quality of supplies.

Responsibilities

1.Develops,maintains and controls departmental capital and operating budget for supplies,expenses and inventory accounts.

2.Coordinatesand communicates with administration and hospital departments to ensure theeffective and efficient operations and distribution of supplies and servicesfor patient care.

3.Coordinates functions and sterile processing activities to complywith regulatory agency requirements. ie. Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

4.Prepares and monitors operating and capital budget funds annually.

5.Interviews, recruits, and hires personnel in areas of responsibility. Completes employee performance appraisals, takes disciplinary actions and terminates personnel as required.

6.Develops,implements, updates and directs maintenance of departmental policies andprocedures manuals as they relate to Sterile Processing operations.

7.Establishesand ensures maintenance of standards concerning decontamination, cleaning,sterilization, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.

8.Establishesstandards for quality control and infection control within the department andcontinually evaluates standards for revision and up-dating as necessary.

9.Ensuresmaintenance of adequate supplies and equipment including evaluating requestsfor and ordering of new equipment.

10.Ensures proper operation andmaintenance of departmental equipment and arrange for repair or replacement asnecessary.

11.Assists and counselssupervisors and departmental personnel concerning work related problems.

12.Directs preparation andmaintenance of departmental records and reports to be used as references andanalyzing tools.

13.Works closely withdepartments utilizing sterile supplies in order to determine and evaluate needfor new equipment or repair and replacement of equipment.

14.Ensures staff provides highquality infection control and patient focused services.

15.MaintainsMembership with The American Society for Healthcare Central ServiceProfessionals (ASHCSP) and/or International Association of Healthcare CentralService Material Management (IAHCSMM) preferred.

16.Performs other related duties.

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $139,748.00 - $209,622.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
