Overview

Who we're looking for:

The TFS Enterprise Shared Service team is seeking a highly motivated person to fill an opening as a Director Software Engineering to help our growing Enterprise Shared Services needs.

The Director Software Engineering is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all technology-related initiatives for TFS's Enterprise Shared Services and frameworks. This role entails developing and executing the technology strategy to ensure alignment with overarching business objectives. The Director of Software Engineering must leverage their technical expertise to drive innovation and deliver impactful business outcomes. Additionally, they should possess strong influencing skills to shape strategy and forge partnerships both internally and externally collaborating with Technology Domain Owners (TDOs), Enterprise Architecture, Data Domain Owners (DDOs), and Business Domain Owners (BDOs).

What you'll be doing

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.


  • Provide guidance, support, and coaching to team members to ensure individual and team goals are met.


  • Manage performance evaluations, career development, and succession planning for the team.


Technology Strategy and Execution:

  • Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for technology initiatives to deliver industry leading real time platform and tools that can be leveraged for cloud based distributed systems, AI/ML, critical workflows, enabling seamless communication across systems for customer notifications, servicing updates, and operational events.


  • Implement advanced solutions using technologies like Kafka, AWS MQ, and other distributed systems to support real-time communication at scale.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technology solutions that enhance employee experience.


  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve and innovate our technology offerings.


Vendor Management and Partnerships:

  • Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.


  • Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate contracts, and drive value-added partnerships to support our technology initiatives.


What you bring

  • 12+ years of expertise as a software engineering leader with experience in designing and implementing modern 12 factor cloud native business technology solutions.


  • 10+ years practical knowledge of cloud platforms, Proven credentials and certification in cloud technologies


  • 10+ years practical knowledge of advanced software design patterns & architecture (Domain Driven Design, Simple Design...) and devops


  • 3+ years of experience with real-time event-driven, microservice architecture using Kafka and related technologies.


  • 5+ years of proficiency in Java, Spring Framework (Spring Batch, Spring Integration), streaming technologies (like kafka) and microservices architecture.


  • Demonstrated experience building and managing production grade systems covering operational readiness, security, efficiency and other Non-Functional Requirements.


  • 5+ years of direct management experience, with a proven history of acting as change agent for the company.


  • Demonstrated experience building a high performing team whose function requires cross company collaboration, has enterprise-wide reach, or is strategically critical to the business.


  • Proven track record of delivering scalable cloud native solutions by developing frameworks for addressing cross cutting concerns like logging, application testing and application security and instrumentation leveraging programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, and a variety of AWS tools and services.


  • Strong communication skills with the ability to move seamlessly between conversing with engineers or frontline ops employees and leading presentations with non-technical stakeholders.


  • A passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code.


Added bonus if you have

  • Master's degree in computer science or a master's degree in software engineering


  • Previous experience successfully delivering shared services, frameworks or other reusable services at enterprise scale.
