Revenue Accounting Director

Location: Boston, MA- Hybrid

Strategic, cross-enterprise leadership role critical to a global software company's transformation agenda

The Revenue Accounting Director is a senior, highly visible leadership role that sits at the intersection of technical accounting excellence, business partnership, and enterprise transformation. Reporting to the VP of Global Revenue Assurance, this role is critical to enabling the company's strategic evolution by ensuring revenue accounting outcomes are aligned with go to market strategy, product innovation, deal structuring, and long term growth objectives, while maintaining the highest standards of accounting integrity and compliance.

This leader serves as a trusted advisor and connective force across the broader ecosystem, partnering with GTM, Commercial Desk, Legal, FP&A, Product, and Systems teams to translate complex business models and commercial strategies into scalable, compliant revenue accounting solutions. The role balances technical authority with pragmatic execution and relationship driven influence in a fast paced, SaaS based global environment.

The ideal candidate is action oriented, collaborative by design, and enterprise minded-someone who thrives in ambiguity, proactively engages stakeholders, and brings structure and clarity to complex, cross-functional challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Partnership & Strategic Influence
  • Act as a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders (Sales, Commercial Desk, Legal, FP&A, Pricing and Packaging, Product, and GTM leadership) on revenue recognition implications of commercial strategy, deal structures, new offerings and M&A transactions.
  • Proactively engage early in business initiatives to shape outcomes upstream, ensuring revenue accounting considerations are embedded in decision making rather than addressed reactively.
  • Translate complex accounting requirements into clear, business relevant guidance that enables speed, scalability, and informed risk taking.

Technical Leadership & Governance
  • Own the design, implementation, and ongoing governance of global revenue accounting policies, systems, controls, and procedures in compliance with ASC 606 and related standards.
  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for revenue recognition within a Software/SaaS environment, providing authoritative guidance on complex and non routine transactions.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of revenue accounting policies, position papers, and technical conclusions, including evaluation of new GTM offerings, pricing models, and commercial announcements.

Process, Systems & Scale Enablement
  • Partner with Finance Systems, RevOps, and IT to scale revenue accounting processes and tools that support growth, automation, and global consistency.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of revenue recognition processes and controls, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, scalability, and control effectiveness.
  • Act as a hands-on problem solver, embedding with operational teams to streamline workflows, resolve issues, and elevate technical accounting capabilities across the organization.

Change Leadership & Special Initiatives
  • Monitor and interpret emerging accounting standards and regulatory developments, assessing enterprise impact and guiding adoption strategy.
  • Lead and execute strategic, cross functional initiatives such as business unit carveouts, acquisitions, integrations, system transformations, and other complex, nonroutine revenue matters.
  • Drive alignment between revenue accounting execution and the company's broader strategic transformation initiatives, ensuring accounting is an enabler-not a bottleneck.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in public accounting and/or technical revenue accounting leadership roles.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Active CPA license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in ASC 606 and revenue recognition within a Software/SaaS business model.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with GTM, Legal, Deal Desk, Product, and FP&A in complex, high growth environments.
  • Experience with Oracle, RevPro, Salesforce, and related revenue and finance systems.
  • Strong executive level communication skills, with the ability to influence, educate, and align nonaccounting stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data, synthesize insights, and drive enterprise level decisions.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable operating across multiple priorities and stakeholder groups.
