To serve as Director, Clinical Functions, with responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the administrative and operational activities of the Department of Respiratory Care within Medical Center University and provides respiratory care management oversight at Medical Center North Liberty. This position serves as a liaison and resource for respiratory care operations at Medical Center Downtown.
HR Management- In collaboration with departmental HR Representative(s) works to ensure a consistent approach to HR management.
- Hold unit leaders accountable for high performance and high engagement by articulating expectations, monitoring performance and providing feedback consistently across areas of responsibility. Approve resource allocations and staffing models.
- Create a supportive and engaging culture within the department and involve staff in action planning and implementation of plans regarding employee engagement and well being.
Financial & Data Management & Analysis- Develop strategy for budget priorities for the department and work with senior leadership to address resource issues.
- Hold unit leaders accountable for managing to the budget.
- Work with internal and external leaders to address and resolve budget issues. Seek methods to enhance revenue.
Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality & Patient Satisfaction- Manage across multiple clinical functions to develop and monitor quality and service indicators.
- Oversee patient satisfaction and quality indicators. Assure that clinical services, educational programs, and research activities are in compliance with all applicable internal and external requirements
Patient Care/Services Delivery- Work across multiple clinical functions and with medical directors and nurse leaders to implement best care practices and new models of care/service.
- Address implementation issues across clinical functions and with other departments.
Planning & Goal Management- Work with CNE, department leaders and staff to develop departmental strategic plan and integrate it with other functions; guide managers in developing action plans for implementation; monitor progress to goal completion.
- Assure integration of goals across functions
- Develop pipeline programs to recruit new Respiratory Therapists to UI Health Care.
Communication/Collaboration- Serve as liaison between staff, medical staff, and healthcare leadership.
- Engage and collaborate with healthcare team members across the enterprise to identify opportunities for improvement, program development and capital budgeting.
- Communicate with external agencies and constituencies to address issues and answer questions.
- Serve as liaison among multiple clinical functions, research, and education units to support collaboration in identifying opportunities for improvement and program development.
- Work with Talent Acquisition to help guide the recruitment and hiring process of the Department of Respiratory Care.
Education Programs- Administer clinical education programs.
- Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy programs to facilitate clinical placement of students.

Required Qualifications:- A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of a bachelor's degree and experience is required.
- Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Possesses a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Extensive (8-10 years) managerial/leadership experience in Respiratory Care in a tertiary setting is required.
- Reasonable (5-7 years) technical experience in Respiratory Care is required, with the ability to demonstrate high degree of understanding and skill in all areas of respiratory patient care.
- Possesses and maintains active membership of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Possesses and maintains active membership of the Iowa Society for Respiratory Care (ISRC)
- Possesses and maintains active membership of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
- Possesses a current CPR certification card.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possesses excellent computer skills.
