About the Team
You'll join the Industry Innovation & Strategy team, where we connect what our customers need with what Workday builds next. We partner closely with Sales, Product, Partnerships, and Marketing to make sure the entire Workday product suite reflects the real needs of the industries we serve. This is a chance to work in one of Workday's key growth industries: State & Local Government. You'll help shape how Workday shows up for public sector customers, by aligning strategy to industry needs and building the customer relationships that support our next phase of growth.
About the Role
As the Director for State & Local Government, you are the bridge between our State & Local Government customers and Workday's full product suite. You'll bring the industry’s needs, trends, and opportunities directly into product and partner conversations, helping ensure our roadmap and go-to-market motion reflect what this industry actually needs.
Your work influences revenue and customer value: you'll help Sales align on product-market fit and partner innovation pursuits across Public Sector at the sub-industry level, by taking a holistic approach to the broader Workday product suite, and equipping the Product and Marketing teams with industry-specific requirements and use cases. You will also act as a trusted advisor to a set of strategic customers to support key sales pursuits and successful production readiness. This will include improving AI product adoption by translating our product capabilities & roadmap to the unique needs of this industry through customer relationships, conferences, and advisory groups. When you spot a roadmap or product gap, you'll help turn it into an innovation opportunity, working to shape the right go-to-market approach and revenue path for it.
You will:
- Continuously analyze sub-industry performance and product-market fit across State & Local Government
- Own a portfolio of 5 key industry accounts, guiding customer success, referenceability, and product advisory
- Identify and pursue innovative or partner-driven solutions for industry requirements that aren't yet on the roadmap
- Increase industry AI adoption and provide roadmap vision & strategy overviews to key customers and prospects
- Build business cases for key industry investment areas
- Advise on acquisition and market adjacency opportunities that support Workday's growth in this space
- Partner with the Sales team on critical pursuits, providing product expertise and roadmap vision
- Guide product teams on industry requirements and emerging trends
About You
Basic Qualifications10+ years of related work experience in a customer-facing, product strategy, or industry role
Other Qualifications- Experience building strong customer relationships and driving customer success in complex, enterprise environments
- Deep product knowledge, with the ability to translate industry needs into clear product requirements
- Confidence presenting to and influencing executive audiences
- Skill in developing business cases that connect industry opportunities to investment decisions
- A track record of driving innovation, especially in identifying new solutions for unmet customer needs
- Strong industry expertise in public sector, including an understanding of its unique priorities and challenges
Prior experience working in State & Local Governments is a plus, as is expertise in the Workday product suite, particularly Financial Management & Spend products.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
