Full Job Description
Director of Product Management - SoftWriters

We're seeking a Director of Product Management to join our Core Product team and lead the next chapter of product excellence at SoftWriters. This is a senior leadership role - net-new and purpose-built - to elevate the craft, velocity, and impact of product management across the organization. You'll coach and develop a team of PMs, build scalable product operations, and model the AI-native mindsets and habits that will power our next phase of enterprise-grade workflow transformation.

Location: Hybrid - Pittsburgh, PA (Core office days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Reports to: VP, Platform Operations

What You'll Do

  • Coach and develop individual product managers, raising the bar for product craft across discovery, prioritization, writing, and customer workflow validation
  • Actively use and champion AI tools in daily product practice - research synthesis, writing, prioritization, stakeholder communication - and teach the team to do the same
  • Design and operate portfolio management, release coordination, and operational governance systems that enable high-velocity delivery
  • Establish and maintain operational metrics and KPI reporting tied to business outcomes - customer adoption, workflow efficiency, time-to-value, and automation utilization
  • Partner closely with the VP of Platform Operations on product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and investment decisions
  • Contribute to AI governance standards and guardrails - establishing policy around how AI features are built, validated, and shipped responsibly
  • Lead the team's shift from backlog management toward accountability for business results and customer workflow outcomes
  • Represent the product management perspective with engineering, quality, and executive stakeholders

Required - What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or people management role
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a technology-related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated success coaching and developing PMs, with a track record of raising team capability and output quality
  • Enterprise software product delivery experience, including cross-functional leadership across engineering, quality, and design
  • Strong product craft: discovery, customer workflow mapping, prioritization frameworks, writing, and acceptance criteria
  • Hands-on AI tool usage in a professional product or organizational context
  • Experience designing operational processes and managing portfolio visibility across multiple product teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to represent the product perspective at the executive level

Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare technology or highly regulated workflow software
  • AI or automation product experience - either as a PM or PM leader
  • Familiarity with AI governance, guardrails, or responsible AI policy in a product context
  • Background in agentic systems or enterprise workflow automation products
  • Experience building or scaling a product operations function from the ground up
  • Knowledge of Jira, Aha, Azure DevOps, or similar product and portfolio management tooling

What Sets You Apart

  • Proactive, hands-on experimentation with AI tools to accelerate team velocity and product outcomes
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and bring structure without slowing things down
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Talent for translating complex customer workflows into clear product priorities
  • A leadership style that builds psychological safety, raises the bar, and develops people
