The Director, Oncology External Innovation will be responsible for identifying opportunities and implementing the external innovation plan of Interventional Oncology (INTO) by partnering with J&J’s Global External Innovation Network that includes INTO, the Oncology Therapeutic Area, Global J&J Innovation Centers, JLABs, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation and J&J Innovative Medicine’s Business Development to accelerate the development of an innovative portfolio of INTO based projects and solutions. The goal is to expand the drug discovery pipeline for Janssen Oncology & INTO through assessment and execution on external strategies with academic/biotech and venture partners. In this position, the candidate must demonstrate expertise in Oncology / Immune Oncology / Med Tech, superior influencing skills and organizational savvy in order to effectively interact with internal partners to drive efficient evaluation and execution of external opportunities. Similarly, the candidate must drive similar interactions with external partners in order to efficiently evaluate and execute on license/collaboration/externalization of novel ideas and assets. Core responsibilities include leading multi-function diligence teams in the evaluation of novel opportunities (including MTA/lab-based evaluation); delivery of a research plan based on input from both internal/external stakeholders; manage the deal process with new venture/transaction/commercial in order to drive decision making at all levels. Operational responsibilities include identification, scouting, evaluation, and partnering of external opportunities / innovative solutions in priority areas of focus inclusive of small molecule and protein modalities and novel platforms, to accelerate the path to disease interception, prevention, and/or cure of cancer.

Planning MTA and collaboration research plan with functional partners
Leads external platform / MOA / special focused projects / opportunity landscaping across region (shared with other cross regional & worldwide partners
Expands the drug discovery pipeline for J&J through identifying and assessing novel opportunities in line with the global INTO and Oncology TA strategies
Establishes new partnerships
Leadsdiligence teams in a matrix organization across Discovery, JBIO, DPDS, clinical, commercial etc
Establishes project plans in partnership with the internal organization
Maintains a strong network with biotech/academia
Supports external visibility and connectivity of Janssen Oncology/Boston IC by participating on external committees or presenting at meetings
Shapes Scientific Innovation strategies that support INTO and the Oncology TA growth objectives, in partnership with discovery, early development, business development, and other partners.
Develops and maintains effective relationships withkey Oncology TA members, TA External Innovation Leaders & members of the TA Senior Leadership team.
Develop a partnering strategy that supports the Oncology Therapeutic Area strategies, identify and triage opportunities consistent with the agreed strategy
Lead cross-functional due diligence teams to efficiently assess and execute in-licensing, collaboration and alliance opportunities for projects and solutions frominception through Proof of Concept.
Develop and refine project plans in collaboration with external business partners and internal personnel to ultimately drive scientific and clinical progress.
Work in matrixed Team to prepare and present scientific and business rationale for any recommendations to enable the opportunity business case for approval and execution to Oncology key stakeholders and Janssen R&D leadership
Develop, cultivate, and manage relationships with J&J Innovation Centers, JLABs and Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation personnel at each of the global locations to enhance networking opportunities and to partner capabilities in transactional support.
Develop and maintain internal collaboration with each of Johnson & Johnson sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical device and consumer, and other Janssen R&D internal functions given the cross-sector nature of the Oncology strategy.
Identify, establish and maintain a broad network of relationships with potential licensors: Industry, academic institutions, biotech partners, entrepreneurs, etc worldwide.
Stay current with emerging scientific, technological and medical innovations within the field.

Remote work options will be considered on a case by case basis and if approved by the company.
Requirements:
PhD, (MD, MBA with PhD would be a plus)
A minimum of 15 years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience
Experience in Oncology drug discovery, scientific innovation, licensing and deal aspects

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$164,000.00 - $282,900.00
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Companys consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
This position is eligible to participate in the Companys long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation 120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado 48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington 56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays 13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave 30 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
