Description

Reporting to the Vice Dean, the Director of Simulation and Clinical Lab Operations will support the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in the School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. The Director of Simulation and Clinical Lab Operations manages instructional and administrative leadership in the simulation education space and functions within the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies under the supervision of the Office of the Dean. This is a year-round administrator position with responsibilities managing the schedule and curricular delivery in highly specialized advanced medical simulation and clinical laboratory spaces.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensures simulation and standardized patient (SP) experiences align with the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies (SONPA) mission, vision, strategic plan, institutional learning outcomes, and applicable state and national standards.
  • Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all simulation, clinical skills, and standardized patient programs within the Science and Innovation Center.
  • Oversees staffing, scheduling, daily operations, and budget planning for simulation and clinical skills activities across SONPA academic programs.
  • Supervises the Clinical Simulation Educator, Standardized Patient Administrator, and other assigned personnel, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Department Chair, Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Nursing, Vice Dean, and faculty to coordinate priorities, scheduling, and operations of the Clinical Skills Laboratory, including open laboratory opportunities.
  • Oversees the maintenance, inventory, procurement, and operational readiness of simulation equipment, clinical supplies, laboratory resources, and simulation spaces to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Coordinates simulation program accreditation activities, including applications, renewals, reporting, program assessment, advisory committee support, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops, facilitates, and evaluates simulation-based learning experiences, including simulation scenarios, standardized patient encounters, learner debriefing, and interprofessional education activities.
  • Oversees all aspects of the Standardized Patient (SP) program, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, scheduling, event coordination, performance evaluation, and collaboration with faculty on case development and implementation.
  • Administers the Education Management Solution (EMS) SimulationiQ platform, including scheduling simulation events, managing cases, checklists and assessment materials, coordinating video recording and archiving, generating reports, and troubleshooting hardware and software issues during simulation activities.
  • Coordinates the maintenance, upgrades, and ongoing functionality of EMS SimulationiQ and other simulation technologies in collaboration with Hofstra Information Technology, EMS representatives, and other technology vendors; maintains current knowledge of emerging simulation technologies and best practices.
  • Leads simulation-related projects and collaborates with Northwell Health's Center for Learning and Innovation and other institutional partners to advance simulation education and innovation.
  • Develops and supports admissions events, marketing initiatives, community outreach, continuing education programs, and other activities that promote the Science and Innovation Center and SONPA.
  • Maintains accurate program records, operational data, and reports to support academic, accreditation, and institutional needs.
  • Participates in departmental and University committees, supports the broader mission of the School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, and performs other duties as assigned.
