Full Job Description
Director of IT
Richardson, TX • In-Office • Full-Time
UPTIME. SECURITY. OWNERSHIP.
Are you the technology leader who would rather fix it than just delegate it?
DebtBlue is growing, and we're looking for a hands-on Director of IT to own the technology that keeps our company running. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll lead a lean team of two IT Support Specialists and take direct ownership of everything infrastructure-related - from desktop support and office networks to our Azure cloud environment, call center telephony, vendors, and IT security. This is a true player-coach role: you'll set the direction, roll up your sleeves, and make sure the 150-200 people who rely on our systems can do their best work every day.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Run day-to-day IT operations. Oversee desktop support for 150-200 onsite and remote employees, serve as the escalation point for complex issues, and manage hardware lifecycles, provisioning, onboarding/offboarding, and mobile device management (MDM).
• Own the cloud and network. Manage DebtBlue's Azure environment, Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Active Directory, and backup and disaster recovery, plus office LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPNs, switches, and routers across all facilities.
• Keep the call center connected. Ensure reliable uptime for telephony/VoIP systems, dialers, and the communication integrations our client-facing teams depend on every day.
• Protect our systems and data. Administer core security controls including IAM, MFA, endpoint protection (EDR), and patch management; enforce security and data-protection policies that meet financial services compliance requirements; and lead remediation when incidents occur.
• Manage vendors and spend. Oversee relationships with internet providers, hardware vendors, software licensors, and managed service providers (MSPs), and monitor licensing and cloud usage to control costs without sacrificing stability.
• Lead and develop the team. Mentor two onsite IT Support Specialists, build a culture of ownership and prompt internal customer service, and partner with business leaders to align IT priorities with company goals.
Qualifications
This role is built for seasoned technical leaders who love uptime, clean documentation, and solving problems hands-on - and who treat every employee as a valued customer.
• 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a lead, managerial, or hands-on Director role
• Proven experience supporting SMB environments (100-300 employees) with a lean internal IT team
• Strong hands-on administration of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Active Directory, and Windows/macOS endpoint management
• Practical expertise in office network management (Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, or similar firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi)
• Direct experience with telephony or cloud contact center platforms (e.g., Five9, RingCentral, NICE CXone, or similar VoIP setups)
• Strong skills in PowerShell scripting and network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN)
• Experience in financial services, debt settlement, or another regulated environment a plus
Educational Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience and certifications
• Preferred certifications: Microsoft Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or CCNA
Benefits
• Medical (PPO), dental, and vision coverage is available
• Group term life, AD&D, and long-term disability (LTD) insurance is available
• Virtual doctor and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits are available
• Voluntary life and short-term disability (STD) insurance is available
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Paid time off (PTO)
Work Environment
This role is based in our Richardson, TX office [confirm in-office or hybrid]. Expect a fast-paced, phone-based business where system uptime directly affects our client-facing teams, occasional after-hours response to critical incidents, and travel to vendor or company sites up to 5% of the time.
