Full Job Description
This position focuses on state and local government affairs throughout the Midwest region and other assigned jurisdictions. We're looking for an experienced government relations professional who can build strong relationships with policymakers and industry stakeholders, navigate complex legislative and regulatory environments, and help advance policies that support IAPMO's mission and organizational priorities.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute state and local government relations and public policy strategies across assigned jurisdictions.
  • Represent IAPMO and build relationships with policymakers, regulators, government officials, industry organizations, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political developments and identify emerging issues and opportunities impacting IAPMO.
  • Lead advocacy efforts, including testimony, public comments, position statements, and legislative and regulatory initiatives.
  • Partner across IAPMO to support code adoption, public policy, and key organizational priorities.
  • Promote IAPMO's expertise in codes and standards, testing and certification, water efficiency, sustainability, public health, and workforce development.
  • Advance the adoption and implementation of IAPMO codes and standards and support related state and local public policy priorities.
  • Coordinate strategic engagement with policymakers and support Government Relations leadership on key initiatives.


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, legislative affairs, political affairs, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of state and local legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Proven ability to build influential relationships and effectively advocate with government, industry, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, relationship-building, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% as needed.


Salary-$135,000-$160,000

Compensation within the posted range will vary based on geographic location, education, experience, and relevant qualifications.
