About the Role:The way software gets built is changing faster than at any point in the last twenty years. At Remitly, we move money for millions of customers around the world, and how fast and well we do that depends on the platforms and tooling our builders use every day.
We're hiring a Director of Engineering to lead our App Platform team. You'll evolve the systems behind Remitly's web and native client experiences, including deep ownership of the platforms our iOS and Android teams build on - along with the tooling our engineers use to build our products and customer experiences.
Your mandate is to transform how we build, increasing the velocity of every engineering and product team at Remitly quarter over quarter.
This is a hands-on role. You'll set direction and grow leaders, while using the tools yourself, shipping and forming your own opinions from first contact. The teams winning right now aren't the ones with the best roadmaps. They're the ones shipping the third version while everyone else is debating the first.
You Will:- Transform how Remitly builds, increasing the velocity of every engineering and product team at the company
- Improve the inner- and outer-loop surfaces closest to daily product development, including build systems, local development, and client infrastructure
- Own the native mobile platform roadmap - architecture, build systems, release infrastructure, and developer tooling - for the teams building Remitly's iOS and Android experiences
- Place thoughtful technical bets, run them as experiments, double down on what's working, and retire what isn't
- Hire and develop senior managers, principal engineers, and builders who are equal parts platform operators and experimenters
- Hold the operational, reliability, and quality bar for the platforms you own
- Build a team culture that treats the rate of change in this industry as its single biggest asset
You Have:- 8+ years of technical leadership experience, including 5+ leading multiple teams
- History building and operating platforms and tooling that engineers actually use and prefer
- Experience hiring and developing senior engineering managers and principal engineers
- Track record leading native mobile platform organizations - iOS and Android - including release, build, and platform experience investments at scale
- Concrete examples of moving your team or yourself ahead of a major industry shift rather than catching up after the fact
- Comfort holding a thoughtful technical opinion in a room of executives, and translating business strategy into technical bets and back
- Fluency with the current generation of AI-native developer tooling, and ideas about what comes next that go beyond "use the tools more"
- Range: you can move from a flaky test in CI to a platform thesis without dropping either
