Full Job Description

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.

Blue National Security (BNS) builds and operates space systems for the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. Our missions are expanding fast and so are the adversaries interested in them.

We're looking for a Director - Cyber Security Architecture to lead the team that protects and defends the systems our missions run on: classified development environments, mission ground systems, labs, and the full set of mission support infrastructure behind them.

This role is intentionally dual-hat. You'll define the security architecture for our most sensitive systems, and you'll build and lead the team of engineers and analysts who implement and defend it. You'll lead a team of engineers and analysts across multiple sites.

What You'll Do

  • Architect for the mission. Own the security architecture for BNS classified enclaves, mission ground segments, and lab environments. Own the Authority to Operate (ATO), Authority to Connect (ATC), and overall security posture for mission IT systems.
  • Lead and grow a team. Hire, mentor, and develop a team of cyber engineers and analysts supporting concurrent classified programs. Build the bench so no program depends on a single person.
  • Defend continuously. Direct threat hunting, vulnerability and patch management, and incident response in partnership with our enterprise SOC and mission partners.
  • Clear the path to accreditation. Drive systems to ATO under RMF and keep them there treating accreditation as mission-critical path, not paperwork.
  • Be the trusted interface. Serve as a principal technical contact for government Authorizing Officials, assessors, and customer cyber leads.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or similar)
  • 10+ years in cybersecurity engineering, including 3+ years leading technical teams
  • Experience architecting and accrediting classified systems in DoD or IC environments
  • Demonstrated success achieving ATOs under RMF SSP authorship through POA&M closure
  • Deep hands-on depth in at least three of: network security architecture, IAM/PKI, government cloud, cyber threat detection and monitoring, enterprise vulnerability management, secure system administration and endpoint hardening
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and eligibility for SAP access determination
  • DoD 8140 IAM Level III certification (CISSP or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior ISSM or ISSE role on SAP/SAR programs
  • Cross-domain solution accreditation experience (NCDSMO baseline)
  • Working knowledge of JSIG, ICD 503/705, NIST SP 800-53 / 800-171, and CMMC
  • Experience standing up and accrediting new classified enclaves or facilities
  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph

Why This Role

You will not be maintaining someone else's architecture. BNS is scaling, and much of what this team needs; standards, tooling, detection coverage, accreditation playbooks is still being written. If you want ownership over how a national security space business defends itself, this is that job.

Logistics

  • Travel up to 25–35% to Blue Origin sites, customer facilities, and mission operations locations
  • Occasional extended hours to support mission-critical events and incident response
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to classified facilities; periodic polygraph may be required

Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $206,673.00 - $289,342.20 WA applicants is $218,262.00 - $305,566.80

Other site ranges may differ
