Responsibilities

The Director of Critical Care Services is a registered professional nurse who holds comprehensive responsibility for assessing needs, identifying problems, planning and implementing care, and coordinating all processes that influence the quality and effectiveness of patient care across designated age groups and service areas. The Director ensures ongoing evaluation of outcomes to support high-quality clinical practice within assigned units.

This role provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing practice and patient care delivery both within the critical care units and across the organization. The Director works closely with clinical staff and contributes to the development of the leadership team, collaborating with nursing colleagues, interdisciplinary partners, executive leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care.

The Director advocates for the rights and safety of patients, families, communities, healthcare professionals, and the organization. They maintain accountability for the services delivered within their areas of responsibility and actively support initiatives that enhance patient experience and customer service.

The Director fosters an environment that supports learning, respect, collaboration, and the sharing of expertise to promote improved health outcomes. They lead unit-based initiatives that advance excellence and ensure compliance with the UF Health Corporate Compliance Plan, ANA Code of Ethics, ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, State Board of Nursing Practice Act, AONE Nurse Executive Competencies, and all applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements.

In addition, the Director of Critical Care Services practices and promotes outstanding customer service and is committed to maintaining respectful, professional relationships at all levels.
