Director of BESS Business Development
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive BESS business development strategy aligned with SunEnergy1's growth objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue utility-scale battery energy storage opportunities across target markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with utilities, renewable energy developers, IPPs, infrastructure funds, and strategic partners.
  • Lead the origination and development of a qualified BESS project pipeline.
  • Manage customer engagement, proposals, presentations, negotiations, and commercial contracting.
  • Collaborate with engineering, estimating, procurement, finance, legal, and project management teams to develop competitive EPC proposals.
  • Partner with customers to understand project requirements, including standalone storage and solar-plus-storage opportunities.
  • Monitor BESS market trends, regulatory developments, interconnection activity, capacity markets, and emerging technologies.
  • Support pricing strategy, project economics, risk assessment, and contract negotiations.
  • Represent SunEnergy1 at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline forecasts, CRM records, and regular business development reporting.
  • Help establish long-term strategic partnerships and expand SunEnergy1's position in the energy storage market.
Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of BESS technologies, project development, EPC delivery, and commercial energy storage markets.
  • Established relationships with utilities, IPPs, renewable energy developers, and energy infrastructure investors.
  • Experience with proposals, commercial negotiations, contracts, and project financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of project economics, including capital costs, revenue streams, and storage project returns.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for customer meetings, industry events, and project opportunities.
Preferred Experience
  • Utility-scale BESS EPC sales or business development experience.
  • Experience with solar-plus-storage projects and hybrid renewable energy systems.
  • Knowledge of interconnection processes, capacity markets, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage.
  • Experience developing projects across the Southeast and other strategic U.S. energy markets.
  • Existing relationships with BESS developers, utilities, IPPs, and equipment or technology providers.
  • Experience working with battery OEMs, integrators, EPC contractors, or energy storage technology partners.
