Job DescriptionDirector, Global Value & Access Business Development In the context of Amgen's increasing emphasis on acquisition/licensing as drivers of growth and the rapidly evolving pricing and access environment, Amgen requires a dedicated role focused on drug pricing, coverage and access capability to support our business development activity.
This is a key position representing Global Value & Access (GV&A) within the cross-functional teams supporting and evaluating business development opportunities.
In this vital role the successful candidate will partner with multiple teams to provide input on access and pricing assumptions related to business development (BD) activities. Key partners include the Commercial BD team, Global Access Strategy Leads, US Contract & Pricing Strategy, Global CD&A and Global Marketing.
The selected candidate will use a strong understanding of US and ex-US payer environment, knowledge of drug pricing and reimbursement economics across payer segments/channels for both oral and injectable assets, outstanding analytical skills to evaluate access and pricing risks and opportunities of potential BD target assets, and executive communication skills. The individual in the position will understand there is work under pressure/tight timelines and use their strong critical thinking skills and consulting mindset to make assumptions with limited data, and collaboration across multiple partners engaged in the entire business development process.
Position Responsibilities/Accountabilities:- BD point of contact for GV&A input on pricing, access and coverage assumptions within BD commercial assessments. Coordinate with regional and country V&A and cross-functional partners to align on GV&A assumptions.
- Research & Analysis. Drive fit-for-purpose research on BD targets. Use key databases (Navlin, Analysource, IQVIA MIDAS, AlphaSense, DRG, MMIT, CMS Medicare, etc.) and BD diligence material to research target product, key analogs and competitors. Work with Operational Pricing team and external agencies on secondary and primary payer research. This role will require significant time spent on researching, evaluating, and collaborating with internal teams on background material related BD targets prior to finalizing inputs
- Commercial Assessment. Provide price and access assumptions for BD revenue forecasts based on target product profile and range of scenario sensitivities. Lead cross-functional teams on key drivers of pricing/access risks and opportunity for product strategy and revenue forecasts.
- BD Process. Participate in deal governance and project meetings to ensure GV&A inputs are aligned with cross-functional team assessment, timelines and key decision points for BD projects.
- Additional opportunity to lead strategic projects and/or serve as Access Strategy Lead for internal early pipeline products

Basic Qualifications:Doctorate degree and 4 years of market access or payer experience, or including business experience in a role aligned with a Marketing/Sales commercial organization
Or
Master's degree and 7 years of market access or payer experience, or including business experience in a role aligned with a Marketing/Sales commercial organization
Or
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of market access or payer experience, or including business experience in a role aligned with a Marketing/Sales commercial organization
Preferred Qualifications:- Proven ability to manage in a highly fluid, interactive, matrix environment and build strong, successful business partnerships with regional and global colleagues.
- Ability to translate complex situation analyses of the external pricing and reimbursement environment and potential asset to develop relevant analytic questions.
- Ability to translate analytic output into potential price and access opportunities for potential deals with quantification of impact for Amgen, providers, patients and payers.
- Strong strategic thinker capable of translating analytic output into strategic insights that will drive the business and proactively define and develop new capabilities to ensure Amgen success in the changing environment.
- Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution.
- Excellent pricing and access technical skills and fluency with data analysis, market research, etc.
- Excellent oral/written communications skills and interpersonal skills with a credible "Senior Management presence"; able to communicate at all organizational levels.
- Strong understanding of the US and global payer environment, including coverage and reimbursement, pricing, value drivers, formulary management, health technologies assessment, and health policy.
- Deep understanding of the U.S. Government and Commercial reimbursement environment with experience in US Market Access (e.g., Contracts & Pricing, Payer Marketing) or adjacent experiences in Global Market Access or Market Access Consulting Firms with deep US expertise.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
