The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is seeking an exceptional strategy leader to help shape the long-term growth agenda for its Power Providers sector while remaining part of the Enterprise Strategy organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Director, Enterprise Strategy - Power Providers will serve as the dedicated strategic partner to Power Providers leadership, helping define where Black & Veatch should compete, how it should invest, which capabilities it should build, and how it should translate market opportunity into profitable growth.

This leader will support strategic work across the Power Providers ecosystem, including advanced power generation, thermal and nuclear readiness, transmission, substations, distribution, grid modernization, communications networks, BESS, solar, lifecycle services, infrastructure advisory, program management, and emerging integrated energy solutions. The role is designed for a strategist who combines analytical rigor, power-sector fluency, executive presence, and practical implementation judgment.

Unlike a traditional advisory role, this opportunity provides the ability to remain involved from insight through executive decision and implementation. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of enterprise strategy and sector execution, helping Power Providers respond to rising load growth, grid resiliency needs, energy transition pressures, utility capital deployment, supply chain constraints, workforce challenges, and changing client expectations.

The Director will report to the Chief Strategy Officer and be embedded as a primary strategy partner to Power Providers leadership. The role will lead a defined portfolio of strategy priorities, frame strategic choices, develop recommendations, facilitate executive decisions, and help establish the roadmaps, measures, governance, and stakeholder alignment required to turn those decisions into measurable results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio choices and capital prioritization: Partner with sector, finance, solution, and enterprise leaders to evaluate where BV should invest, scale, hold, partner, acquire, or deprioritize across Power Providers growth priorities.
  • Market and competitive intelligence: Develop evidence-based views of utility capital spending, load growth, resiliency needs, regulatory shifts, EPC competition, grid investment, generation mix changes, renewable integration, and storage adoption.
  • Growth strategy and client segment alignment: Help define priority clients, regions, service offerings, delivery models, and go-to-market priorities for Power Providers, ensuring sector choices align with BV's enterprise growth agenda.
  • Integrated solution strategy: Identify cross-solution opportunities that connect generation, grid, BESS, solar, data center load, advisory, PMO, and lifecycle services into differentiated offerings for power-sector clients.
  • Business case and investment development: Build board- and ELT-ready investment cases, scenario models, TAM/SAM assessments, market share views, capability gap analyses, and financial impact models to support Power Providers decisions.
  • Execution roadmap and governance: Translate approved strategies into actionable roadmaps, milestones, ownership models, KPIs, and governance routines that connect strategic intent to measurable delivery outcomes.
  • M&A, partnerships, and capability building: Work with inorganic growth, sector, and solution leaders to evaluate acquisitions, partnerships, talent investments, technology opportunities, and operating-model changes that accelerate Power Providers growth.
  • Executive stakeholder engagement: Serve as a trusted counselor to the Chief Strategy Officer, Power Providers leadership, Market Sector Presidents, solution leaders, and enterprise executives on high-stakes strategic decisions.
  • Team development and player/coach leadership: Lead complex analytical work while developing strategy talent, coaching junior team members, and raising the quality, consistency, and executive readiness of strategy deliverables.
