Full Job Description

This is a hybrid-remote role based out of the Brooklyn, OH office, with the Director expected to work onsite on four designated in-office days each week.

Job Summary:

Responsible for setting corporate tax policy. Oversees the preparation of the domestic compliance, audit, and administrative activities and relationships associated with corporate tax planning and compliance. Responsible for the timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns and the timely remittance of any corresponding payments. Ensures the accurate presentation of tax accounts in the financial statements. Participated with other leaders in the planning of the company's activities in all phases of its operations to minimize tax cost.

Responsibilities:
  • Directs the collection, audit and consolidation of data obtained from various departments and subsidiaries required to prepare and file various Federal, State and Local tax returns. Ensures constant compliance with due dates for the filing of the various Federal, State, Local and Personal Property, and Premium and Sales/ Use tax returns.
  • Manages and reviews the preparation of separate company and consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and supporting work papers.
  • Gathers information necessary for and assists with the preparation of the quarterly and annual domestic income tax provision, effective tax rate analysis and all associated income tax accounting reporting requirements.
  • Organizes the process of filing and remitting payment to various states for health care tax surcharges, including keeping current on tax law changes and working with IT to update systems requirements. Prepares reporting tax materials including B notice and Form 1099 materials. Responsible for FIN48 (Accounting for Uncertain Tax Positions) disclosures, data gathering, calculations and keeping management informed of global risks.
  • Reviews tax sensitive general ledger accounts ensuring the accuracy of reported balances. Researches any reconciling items and takes necessary action to correct these items. Reviews period end journal entries to ensure accuracy prior to posting to G/L.
  • Directs the payroll department in the preparation and administration of all payroll information. Provides overall management direction in tax, systems, and financial reporting functions of the payroll department.
  • Employs outside professional firms in tax matters, controls their efforts and determines the extent of their use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Master's of Taxation, MBA or Masters of Accounting preferred.
  • 10 years of accounting/tax experience with 3 years in a lead position.

Professional Certification(s):
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of income tax and accounting rules/ concepts.
  • Demonstrated intermediate knowledge using personal computer, including MS Office and various tax preparation, and research tools.
