Full Job Description
The Director, Corporate Affairs is a key member of the extended leadership team, serving as the custodian of Trex's corporate reputation. Responsible for leading, developing, and implementing a compelling global communications agenda, both internal and external, to support the overall Trex business strategy and to enhance business performance. The Director of Corporate Affairs ensures alignment of messaging across all stakeholders to support the company's brand, reputation, and business objectives. The Director of Corporate Affairs also identifies opportunities to improve external impact and is responsible for crisis management.

  • Corporate Communications Strategy (Internal & External)
    • Ensure consistent message across all platforms
    • Develop and lead a comprehensive enterprise-level communications strategy that aligns with corporate vision and values.
    • Oversee all internal communication programs to inform, engage, and inspire team members and drive alignment with business objectives.
    • Lead external communications efforts including media relations, public relations, executive visibility, and brand storytelling.
    • Develop position statements and a repository of communications materials/policies, including talking points, media statements, speech writing, media training, Q&A, etc. for all executives and external facing team members.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, CFO and executive team on all communications matters.
  • Public Relations
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive public relations strategy that advances the company's brand narrative, protects its reputation, and supports broader business objectives across all stakeholder audiences.
    • Serve as a primary spokesperson for the organization, managing relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to secure consistent, positive earned media coverage and respond effectively to press inquiries.
    • Oversee the creation of press releases, media kits, executive bylines, and thought leadership content that effectively communicate the company's position, milestones, and perspectives to target audiences.
    • Build and maintain a robust media relations network, cultivating strong relationships with key reporters, influencers, and industry analysts to expand the company's share of voice within its sector.
    • Partner with senior leadership and the C-suite to develop executive communications strategies, including media training, speaking engagements, award submissions, and public profile-building initiatives.
    • Monitor, analyze, and report on media coverage and public sentiment, leveraging data and analytics tools to measure PR effectiveness and continuously refine messaging and outreach strategies.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, legal, investor relations, and government affairs teams to ensure aligned, consistent messaging and to support integrated campaigns across all external communications channels.
  • Crisis Management
    • Design and maintain a comprehensive crisis communications framework, including playbooks, escalation protocols, and pre-approved messaging templates that enable the organization to respond swiftly and effectively to any reputational threat.
    • Serve as the lead crisis communications strategist during high-stakes situations, coordinating cross-functional response teams across legal, HR, operations, and senior leadership to ensure a unified, timely, and accurate public response.
    • Conduct ongoing crisis preparedness assessments by identifying potential reputational vulnerabilities, monitoring emerging risks, and stress-testing response protocols through tabletop exercises and simulated crisis scenarios.
    • Manage all external communications during a crisis, including media statements, social media responses, stakeholder notifications, and holding statements, ensuring messaging is consistent, transparent, and aligned with legal and regulatory considerations.
    • Brief and prepare executive leadership and designated spokespeople for media interactions during crisis situations, providing real-time coaching, talking points, and Q&A preparation to ensure confident and on-message delivery.
    • Oversee post-crisis analysis and reporting, evaluating the effectiveness of the communications response, documenting lessons learned, and updating protocols to strengthen future preparedness.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Government Affairs
    • Oversee corporate governance including policy frameworks, regulatory filings, documented processes, regulatory compliance, etc.
    • Build coalitions and expand relationships with key decision-makers, policymakers, and federal, state, and local elected officials across the company footprint.
    • Monitor policy changes through appropriate channels, and maintain current knowledge of government changes and actions, especially in areas of regulatory affairs.
  • Sustainability
    • Design and implement strategies to strengthen Trex's presence and impact in local and global communities.
    • Oversee annual corporate philanthropic efforts in alignment with business objectives.
    • Foster partnerships with nonprofits, government agencies, and community organizations.
    • Lead corporate sustainability initiatives including oversight of annual reporting.

DIRECT REPORTS

Manage and provide ongoing performance, coaching, and professional development opportunities for a team of about 5 direct reports.
