Full Job Description
The Role

Artefact is looking for a Director of AI & Data Consulting to help lead our US consulting practice. Our consultants are not spectators of the AI transformation they advise on - they are builders. A Director at Artefact wins engagements with C-level executives, leads multidisciplinary teams to deliver them, and is personally fluent in the AI tools reshaping our clients' businesses. When a client asks what an agentic workflow could look like, you don't just describe it - you can open Claude Code or Gemini CLI and have a working prototype in the room by the next meeting. We need someone who is not afraid of the terminal.

This is a role for a leader who combines consulting excellence, commercial drive, and genuine AI literacy - and who can grow both a client portfolio and the people around them.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the primary contact and trusted advisor for client executives - CMO, CDO, CIO, and often CEO - on data and AI transformation.
  • Win engagements: develop the client portfolio, grow the US commercial pipeline, and build and present winning proposals.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of consultants, data scientists, AI engineers, and analysts, and orchestrate Artefact's global offices when needed.
  • Ensure delivery meets Artefact's quality bar: measurable impact, not just recommendations.
  • Shape AI and data strategies, operating models, roadmaps, and adoption programs that survive contact with reality.
  • Guide clients from GenAI pilots to production-grade, governed AI adoption - including agentic AI, AI-native ways of working, and organizational change.
  • Bring a firm command of the data, marketing, and technology ecosystem, and keep it current as the AI landscape moves.
  • Bring (or build) vertical expertise - e.g., CPG, retail, financial services, healthcare, telecom.
  • Use AI tools daily in your own work - analysis, writing, prototyping - and set the standard for what an AI-native consultant looks like.
  • Prototype with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex) to make ideas tangible in pitches and workshops.
  • Maintain real specialization in at least one AI platform ecosystem - Google (Gemini Enterprise), Anthropic (Claude), or OpenAI - deep enough to advise credibly on platform strategy.
  • Understand context engineering well enough to shape how clients connect AI to their data, documents, and systems.
  • Lead and develop the US consulting team: recruiting, mentoring, training, and best-practice sharing across countries.
  • Develop others' AI literacy: make every consultant on your teams a more capable builder.
  • Contribute to content and thought leadership: Artefact-published research, articles, business cases, events, and PR.
  • Communicate successes internally and externally to strengthen Artefact's US market position.

What We're Looking For
  • 8-10 years of demonstrated success at a consulting, technology, or media firm (or in-house in a related capacity), with robust experience managing both projects and clients.
  • Proven ability to win work: a business development track record, preferably having built a book of business.
  • Experience advising senior executives (C-level) on data, digital, or AI transformation.
  • Demonstrated AI literacy as a builder: regular hands-on use of AI tools to produce real work - prototypes, analyses, automations - not only slideware.
  • Working fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, or Codex, and comfort in the terminal with AI guidance.
  • Specialization in at least one major AI platform ecosystem - Google (Gemini Enterprise, Vertex AI), Anthropic (Claude Enterprise), or OpenAI - sufficient to advise on platform selection and adoption.
  • Outstanding communication skills: executive presence, sharp storytelling, and the ability to make complex AI topics simple without making them wrong.
  • Experience leading and developing consulting teams.
  • Thought leadership at the intersection of data, marketing, and technology

Preferred Experience
  • Vertical expertise in CPG, retail, financial services, healthcare, or telecom.
  • Experience taking clients from AI experimentation to scaled, governed adoption.
  • Familiarity with context engineering concepts: RAG, semantic layers, knowledge bases, MCP.
  • An existing network and reputation in the US data & AI market.

How We Support Our People

In addition to our values-driven culture, we offer a range of benefits and programs designed to support our employees' growth and well-being, including:
  • Learning and Development: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of AI, data, and consulting experts who are committed to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: Our hybrid work model gives you the flexibility to balance collaboration, client needs, and personal commitments.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: We offer a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company matching, and paid parental leave.
  • Time to Recharge: We believe sustainable performance matters. That's why we offer unlimited paid time off, giving you the flexibility to take the time you need.
  • Growth Opportunities: As a rapidly growing organization, you'll have the opportunity to expand your skills, take on new challenges, and help shape the future of the company.

The estimated base compensation for this role is $200,000 - $230,000 (NYC location). Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, this role is eligible for competitive benefits.
