Full Job Description
The Director of Accounting is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and team development. This position serves as a key financial leader within the organization, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of financial information while maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

The successful candidate will develop and maintain robust accounting principles, policies, and systems that support the organization's rapid growth. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage and mentor a growing accounting team while balancing strategic initiatives with operational excellence.

What you will do:

  • Oversee all general accounting functions and financial reporting, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of financial statements
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures that support effective financial management and operational efficiency
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team through performance evaluations, goal setting, and ongoing training
  • Build a high-performing department by fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and strong employee engagement
  • Partner with external auditors to facilitate efficient year-end closes and timely resolution of audit findings
  • Coordinate with finance leadership and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with reporting timelines and regulatory requirements
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and cost-benefit evaluations to support strategic business decisions
  • Lead special projects as assigned, contributing financial insight to broader business initiatives
  • Identify and drive opportunities for process improvements, system enhancements, and cost optimization within the accounting function


What You Should Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA license (or ability to obtain within one year of hire); 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity
  • Thorough, practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP with the ability to apply it to complex financial reporting scenarios
  • Proficiency with modern accounting systems and software, including advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis)
  • Hands-on experience implementing, managing, or optimizing ERP systems such as Sage, NetSuite, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, internal controls, and audit processes
  • Proven track record leading, mentoring, and developing accounting teams, with demonstrated ability to drive performance and results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information for diverse audiences
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and financial partners
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities independently while remaining a strong team player
  • Demonstrates integrity, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment when handling sensitive financial information


Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience in construction, telecommunications, job costing, or service provider accounting
