Full Job Description
Digital Engineer
We have an immediate opening for a Digital Engineer to support multidisciplinary engineering projects for the U.S. Department of War (DoW) in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical foundation in systems engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), software development, and modeling and simulation (M&S), with demonstrated ability to integrate these disciplines into cohesive digital engineering solutions. This individual will apply modern digital engineering methodologies, architectures, models, and analytical tools to address complex challenges in Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), Joint Tactical Integrated Fire Control (JTIFC), and Joint All-Domain Operations, with an emphasis on improving sensor-to-shooter integration and closing the kill chain. Successful candidates possess strong analytical and hands-on engineering skills, systems-level thinking, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions to complex warfighter challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Support digital engineering projects integrating systems engineering, MBSE, software development, and M&S to develop, evaluate, and deliver advanced defense capabilities.
Develop and maintain integrated digital engineering models that establish traceable connections among system requirements, architectures, analytical models, software implementations, and verification and validation activities.
Develop system architectures and descriptive models using Cameo Systems Modeler, applying SysML, UAFML, and other applicable modeling languages and architectural frameworks.
Apply systems engineering principles to requirements development, functional decomposition, interface definition, trade studies, system integration, and verification and validation.
Integrate MBSE architectures with physics-based and mission-level M&S environments to support system performance assessments, operational analysis, and mission engineering.
Collaborate with software engineering teams to translate system architectures and requirements into software designs, prototypes, executable models, and operational capabilities.
Support the development and implementation of digital threads connecting system architectures, software, simulations, engineering data, and test environments.
Evaluate system-of-systems architectures, operational mission threads, interfaces, and interoperability across joint and distributed defense systems.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, participate in technical reviews, and communicate engineering findings and recommendations to government customers and industry partners.
Prepare technical documentation, engineering analyses, models, reports, and other contractual deliverables.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline.
8-12 years of relevant professional experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, MBSE, software engineering, modeling and simulation, or related technical disciplines.
Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering principles and methodologies to the design, development, integration, or analysis of complex systems.
Hands-on experience using Cameo Enterprise Architecture to develop system architectures, requirements models, behavioral models, or interface definitions.
Working knowledge of Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Modeling Language (UML).
Experience integrating systems engineering, MBSE, software development, and M&S activities to address complex technical problems.
Experience with software development concepts, programming, scripting, or software integration using Python, MATLAB, C++, Java, or similar technologies.
Experience developing, integrating, or applying analytical models and simulations to evaluate system capabilities or performance.
Understanding of system architectures, interface standards, requirements traceability, and verification and validation methodologies.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
Active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
Experience with architectural frameworks such as the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) or Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
Familiarity with SysML v2, model transformation, model federation, and emerging digital engineering standards.
Experience with M&S tools and environments such as AFSIM, MATLAB/Simulink, STK, or comparable simulation and analytical frameworks.
Experience with distributed simulation architectures and standards, including High-Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
Knowledge of IAMD mission threads, sensor-to-shooter integration, track management, sensor fusion, threat evaluation and weapon assignment (TEWA), engagement planning, and kill chain analysis.
Experience with Agile software development, DevSecOps, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, or AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software development, model generation, engineering analysis, automated testing, or other digital engineering activities.
Experience with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, or comparable engineering collaboration and configuration management tools.
Experience supporting hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), software-in-the-loop (SWIL), or live-virtual-constructive (LVC) test environments.
