Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) services
  • Assess patients and provide tailored dietary recommendations
  • Instruct patients and families on dietary plans and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care strategies

Summary

Join Our Team at Mercy Medical Center - Now Hiring a Diabetes Educator Procedure Coordinator!

Responsibilities

The Coordinator is a member of both the Diabetes Management Team and the Institute for Cancer Care and serves as the resource and instructor for patients, families and professionals on nutritional issues in the management of diabetes and cancer. The Diabetes Education Program Coordinator oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of the DSMES services. The Coordinator demonstrates knowledge of diabetes, bariatrics surgery, oncology, lipid and, eating disorders. This is in addition to, principles of growth and development appropriate to the ages of the patients served. The Coordinator assesses the patient, provides dietary recommendations, instructs the patient/family in the plan and evaluates the success of the patient and plan to meet metabolic goals of the patient.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Education and Work Experience:
    • Nutrition or related field at an accredited college or university
    • 3 years as a working dietitian


SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • License Requirements:
    • Licensed (LDN) by the DHMH of Maryland and by the national credentialing board of the ADA, Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD).
  • Certification Requirements:
    • Certified Diabetes Educator preferred (CDE).

    • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
    • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
    • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
