The Position

Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - Health Services Unit

The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is seeking to fill Diagnostic Imaging Technologist I positions located in the Diagnostic Imaging Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, CA.

The Diagnostic Imaging Technologist I is responsible for performing general diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures for outpatient, inpatient and emergency/trauma patients. Other responsibilities include positioning and transferring patients and providing immobilization devices; performing portable x-rays and portable C-Arms; administering opaque media to patients under direction of physician; and practicing sterile techniques and preventing cross-contamination. In addition, may assist in use of a variety of equipment or imaging procedures; and may perform under general supervision mammography and specialized examinations such as tomography, surgical and trauma radiology.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record demonstrating the following:
  • Familiarity of diagnostic imaging procedures using fixed or portable, computed radiography, digital radiology, and fluoroscopic imaging equipment
  • Knowledge of appropriate filters, cones, protective clothing and devices to obtain high-quality images
  • Ability to identify patients with two identifiers

Typical Tasks

  • Positions and transfers patients and provides immobilization devices as required
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed and selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis
  • Develops x-ray film by automatic processing
  • Performs portable x-rays and utilizes portable C-Arms
  • Provides protection to self and patients in accordance with prescribed safety standards
  • Under the direction of the physician, administers opaque media to patients
  • Assists with filing and retrieval of films and reports as necessary
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination
  • Cleans, disinfects and stocks exam rooms before each use
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the exam room
  • Secures and returns supplies
  • Escorts patients to other clinical areas and nursing units
  • Responsible for development of technical factors and screen film selection
  • Recognizes common equipment malfunctions and makes minor repairs or adjustments as required
  • May assist in use of a variety of equipment or imaging procedures
  • Learns to independently perform mammography, specialized examinations such as angiography, tomography, venography and surgical or trauma radiology
  • Learns to assist with the clerical functions of receiving and admitting, and scheduling appointments, and charging patients, exams and supplies in the radiology service

Minimum Qualifications
Certificate Required: Possession and maintenance of a valid certificate as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) issued by the California Department of Public Health AND certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by the American Red Cross.

Other Requirements: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.
A COMPLETED SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE AND CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.
