Designer III - ElectricalSaber Power Services is seeking a Designer III - Electrical to support the engineering and design of electrical power systems for utility, industrial, renewable energy, and substation projects. This position is responsible for independently developing detailed design packages, coordinating with engineers and project teams, and producing high-quality construction drawings while ensuring compliance with client standards, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
The Designer III serves as a technical resource within the design team, providing guidance to junior designers and drafters while supporting multiple projects from concept through construction.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Prepare and develop detailed electrical design drawings and construction packages for substations, transmission, distribution, industrial, and renewable energy projects.
- Produce single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, conduit layouts, grounding plans, lighting plans, and equipment layouts.
- Perform electrical equipment layouts and cable routing using client standards and project specifications.
- Coordinate designs with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and complete deliverables.
- Revise drawings based on engineering markups, client comments, and field feedback.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable codes, standards, and client drafting requirements.
- Conduct quality control reviews of design packages prior to issuance.
- Assist with field investigations, site visits, and as-built documentation when required.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and drafters.
- Support project schedules by producing accurate deliverables within established timelines.
- Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Maintain project documentation and drawing revision records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
Qualifications:- Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical design experience, preferably in utility, substation, transmission, distribution, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience using 3D modeling software such as Inventor, Revit, or Bentley OpenUtilities is a plus.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NESC, IEEE standards, and applicable utility standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications, one-line diagrams, and vendor drawings.
- Strong understanding of electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, control panels, batteries, chargers, and associated electrical systems.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles and drafting standards.
- Ability to develop complete construction drawing packages with minimal supervision.

- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to mentor junior designers and contribute to continuous process improvement.
