Job Description

The Designated Institutional Official (DIO) serves as the senior executive responsible for the strategic leadership, administration, oversight, and continuous improvement of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs within Saint Vincent hospital. Acting on behalf of the Sponsoring Institution, the DIO ensures compliance with all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional, Common, and Specialty-Specific Program Requirements while fostering a culture of educational excellence, innovation, quality, safety, professionalism, and trainee well-being. The DIO serves as the institutional authority for graduate medical education and is accountable for the oversight of residency and fellowship programs, accreditation activities, academic governance, financial stewardship, faculty development, trainee affairs, and institutional learning environment initiatives. The DIO works collaboratively with executive leadership, Program Directors, department chairs, medical staff leadership, affiliated institutions, academic partners, and regulatory agencies to advance the institution's educational mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership and Institutional Oversight - Serves as the executive leader responsible for the vision, strategic direction, and long-term growth of GME across the Massachusetts Market.
  • Accreditation, Regulatory Compliance, and Sponsoring Institution Accountability - Maintains ultimate responsibility for compliance with all ACGME Institutional Requirements.
  • Graduate Medical Education Governance - Chairs the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).
  • Program Administration and Operational Leadership - • Provides oversight and operational leadership for all residency and fellowship programs sponsored by the institution.
  • Financial Stewardship and Resource Management - Oversees institutional GME budgets and financial planning processes.
  • Learning Environment, Quality, Safety, and Trainee Well-Being - Leads initiatives to improve the clinical learning environment and educational culture.
  • Performs related duties as required.

    • Education:
      • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration

      • Organizational Leadership
      • Higher Education Administration
      • Educational Leadership, or a related field.
    • Experience: ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in Graduate Medical Education, including significant experience in:
      • ACGME accreditation and institutional oversight.
      • Residency and fellowship program administration
      • Graduate Medical Education operations and compliance.
      • Strategic planning and organizational leadership.
      • Budget development and financial management.
      • Faculty, trainee, and staff development.
      • Academic governance and committee leadership.
