Full Job Description
We're looking for a curious, hands-on engineer to join our Crank and Bottom Bracket Team in San Luis Obispo (SLO), California. As a Design Engineer, you'll work on crankset and drivetrain components used by elite cyclists and weekend warriors alike. You'll contribute to new product launches, learn alongside experienced engineers, and help push the limits of what bikes can do.

Our office in San Luis Obispo is located on California's Central Coast, just minutes from singletrack and surf. With more than 300 sunny days a year and mild temperatures, SLO makes it easy to get outside, whether that means a morning ride, a lunch hike, or a beach weekend.

This is an ideal role for a mechanical engineer who's passionate about bikes and innovative product design. Bonus points if you thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy figuring out how things work (and how to make them better!).

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and model cranksets and related drivetrain components using a variety of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply SRAM engineering best practices and standard procedures to how work is accomplished.
  • Create CAD models, drawings, documentation, and project plans using Creo, Windchill, and Smartsheet.
  • Collaborate with local and global teammates, test labs, and overseas suppliers.
  • Facilitate problem resolution within the design team and at factories and suppliers.
  • Mitigate risks through proactive design analysis.
  • Prototype, test, break stuff, and refine the design as you go.
  • Provide input for development of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel (typically 1 to 2 weeks at a time, a couple times per year).
  • Take meetings and calls across time zones, including early mornings or evenings.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience.
  • Extensive CAD experience required. Creo Parametric and surface modeling experience desired.
  • Composite experience a plus.
  • Experience applying a variety of engineering tools such as statistics, GD&T, FEA, FMEA and tolerance analysis.
  • Exceptional communication, teamwork, and relationship skills.
  • Product Lifecycle Management system (PLM) experience such as Windchill a plus.
  • Experience designing with a variety of manufacturing processes such as forging, CNC machining/turning, and stamping.
  • This role is onsite in San Luis Obispo, CA and non-local candidates will be expected to relocate.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary ranging from $80,000 to $120,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including:
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • 401(k) with company match
    • Life and disability insurance
    • Paid time off
