Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Deputy Superintendent for Human Resources and Operations provides executive leadership for the district's human resources, labor relations, legal and regulatory compliance, facilities, capital planning, operations, and transportation functions. The position advises the Superintendent and district leaders on complex personnel, operational, contractual, and legal matters and serves as the district's lead administrator in the Superintendent's absence.

The Deputy Superintendent leads collective bargaining with the district's two largest employee groups, serves as the primary administrative contact for legal matters, and oversees designated civil rights and accessibility compliance responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, educational leadership, human resources, management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Graduate-level coursework or demonstrated professional expertise in school law, labor relations, human resources, or business management.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate and compliance with applicable Michigan Department of Education school administrator continuing education requirements.
  • Minimum of five years of successful central-office administrative leadership experience in an educational setting, including personnel management, labor relations, collective bargaining, contract administration, and employee benefits.
  • Experience advising executive leaders, managing complex and confidential matters, and hiring, supervising, and evaluating professional, administrative, or operational employees.
Essential Duties

  • Provides executive leadership and counsel to the Superintendent and serves as the district's lead administrator in the Superintendent's absence.
  • Oversees human resources, labor relations, collective bargaining, employee relations, and complex personnel matters.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for legal and regulatory compliance, including designated civil rights and accessibility responsibilities.
  • Provides executive oversight of facilities, capital planning, operations, safety and security, and transportation services.
  • Oversees assigned budgets, contracts, operational initiatives, and collaborative relationships with local districts, agencies, labor representatives, and community partners.

Compensation & Benefits

Work Schedule: 261 days per year, 7.5 hours per day
