Job Summary The Department Chair provides academic and administrative leadership while supporting the department's commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student success.
The chair will oversee the department's academic programs and daily operations, work collaboratively with faculty to establish departmental priorities, and support the continued growth of the department. This is a full-time, nine-month faculty position that includes teaching two Political Science courses each semester. The anticipated start date is July 2027.
Essential Duties - Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Political Science and Philosophy.
- Oversee daily departmental operations, including budgeting, course scheduling, assessment, curriculum planning, and resource management.
- Establish departmental priorities and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, the dean, and university leadership to support departmental goals.
- Participate in the recruitment, supervision, development, and evaluation of faculty and staff.
- Support excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student success.
- Represent the department within Angelo State University and the community.
- Teach two Political Science courses each semester.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Political Science. Academic credentials sufficient for appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor. Evidence of administrative experience demonstrating the ability to serve as department chair.
Preferred Qualifications Academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the rank of Professor and at least two years of experience as a department chair in Political Science.
Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
