Job DescriptionACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIREDWe are seeking a
Database Engineer to provide technical expertise across database design, development, implementation, and complex data modeling for critical defense and intelligence customer missions. In this role, you will work primarily across the front-end of the development lifecycle-from initial requirements gathering through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC). You will architect relational and Object-Oriented databases, develop custom parsers and automated loading software, and balance technical trade-offs across data volumes, user concurrency, security controls, and response times. Additionally, you will build complex database queries, leverage Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and implement cloud-native storage and retrieval strategies.
The annual base salary range for this role is $139,000-$164,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required Skills- Database Architecture & Design: Proven expertise in database design, development, logical and physical data modeling, and information storage and retrieval for relational and Object-Oriented databases.
- Lifecycle Experience (Requirements to IOC): Demonstrated experience leading database engineering efforts across the early software lifecycle-translating complex requirements into usable database structures, schemas, and acceptance tests.
- Parser & Data Loading Software: Hands-on skill developing custom database parser software, ETL scripts, macros, and automated loading mechanisms.
- Query Development & Data Manipulation: Mastery of ad-hoc queries, SQL scripting, stored procedures, and tables to extract, transform, manipulate, and consolidate large-scale data into master data repositories.
- Trade-Off Analysis & Performance Tuning: Ability to analyze and optimize trade-offs between data volume, user access, logical/physical distribution, security controls, and query response times.
- Cloud & Database Technologies: Experience leveraging Cloud storage methodologies, database technologies, and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) for integration.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline, PLUS
5+ years of professional experience in data science, NLP, or software engineering OR
High School Diploma / GED, PLUS
10+ years of specialized technical experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired SkillsCloud Data Warehouses & NoSQL: Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB) and cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift, Snowflake).
Big Data Integration: Experience integrating database systems with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or NiFi.
Database Security & Access Control: Knowledge of fine-grained access control (FGAC), encryption at rest/in transit, and row/column-level security implementations.
Automated Migration & CI/CD: Exposure to database migration tools (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase) and automated deployment pipelines.
