Role Summary

The Data Product Owner plays a key role within IndividualInvestorsData Management.The II business is responsible for over $200B in client assets and serves1.3 million investors.The Data Product Owner leads assigned Retail client data priorities and workstreams, translating business and consumer needs into prioritized capabilities and guiding delivery to ensure client data is accurate, consistent, trusted, and fit for purpose across business processes and downstream consumers/platforms.

As a Product Owner and subject matter expert in Retail client data, this role serves as a primary partner to business and technology stakeholders, translating complex business needs into clear requirements, priorities, and actionable solutions. The role guides data capabilities through discovery, delivery, and adoption while managing competing priorities and dependencies. Through strong product ownership and data managementexpertise, the Data Product Owner balances business value, data quality, governance, risk, and scalability when prioritizing work and making decisions. The role drives continuous improvement to strengthen data usability, reliability, and value across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the Product Owner and primary point of contact for assigned client datadomain, partnering across business, technology, analytics, operations, and risk teams to understand needs, resolve issues, and improve data outcomes.
  • Serves as a consultant to business stakeholders on complex client data needs, translating businessobjectivesinto clear product requirements and recommending solutions that support informed decision-making and operational effectiveness.
  • Owns and prioritizes the backlog for assigned scope, balancing business value, data quality, risk, dependencies, and delivery capacity to make informed trade-off recommendations.
  • Partners with engineering, architecture, analytics, and business teams throughout product discovery, refinement, delivery, validation, and adoption.
  • Ensures product requirements incorporate applicable data governance, quality, control, metadata, and enterprise standards throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Defines acceptance criteria andleadsbusiness validation and UAT for new or enhanced product capabilities, ensuring delivered solutions meet business and data requirements.
  • Defines and monitors product success measures, including adoption, data quality, reliability, and business value, and uses results to inform continuous improvement priorities.
  • Proactivelyidentifiesand manages data quality issues, risks, and dependencies within assigned products, driving remediation in alignment with enterprise policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Provides guidance, knowledge sharing, and support to less experienced associates and serves as a resource for data management and product ownership best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 5+ years of total relevant work experience

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) and collaborating with product, business, and technology teams.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate across matrixed teams and influence outcomes across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of data management disciplines including data governance, data quality management, metadata management, data lineage, and master data management (MDM).
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of investment products within the retail and retirement plan space (e.g., Brokerage accounts, IRAs, ETFs, 401(k), 403(b), defined contribution, defined benefit plans).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience conducting advanced data analysis and translating findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Strong organization, planning, prioritization, and process improvement skills.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database models and SQL for data extraction, profiling, validation, and analysis.
  • Proficient atgathering and documenting business and data requirements and translating requirements into effective data solutions.
  • Experience managing complex datasets, data dependencies, and end-to-end data flows across multiple business processes and systems.
  • Experience implementing and executing data governance, data quality, and data management controls.
  • Experience leading testing and validation efforts for data products, data pipelines, reporting solutions, and system enhancements, including test planning, execution, defect management, and data reconciliation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously while working independently with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with MS Office (advanced Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Teams.
  • Experience defining, monitoring, and reporting data quality metrics,governanceKPIs, and remediation activities.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing guidance to less experienced associates.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to one day per week from home.

Base Salary Ranges

$96,500.00 - $164,000.00 for the location of: Maryland, Colorado, Washington and remote workers
$105,000.00 - $180,000.00 for the location of: Washington, D.C.
$120,000.00 - $205,000.00 for the location of: New York, California

Placement within the range provided above is based on the individuals relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
